This Coffee Was Just Recalled For Basically Containing Viagra

Not the kind of perk you were expecting from your caffeine...

A Texas-based coffee company’s java is disappearing off the nationwide market for endowing its drinkers with more of a pick-me-up than they bargained for. Bestherbs Coffee LLC just recalled all 13-gram packages of “New of Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee” after the FDA discovered desmethyl carbodenafil—a substance similar to the active ingredient in Viagra—lurking in the bags. Although this instant coffee was marketed as a male enhancement brew, it did not declare the Viagra-like ingredient on the packaging.

According to the company’s announcement on the FDA website, the “undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.” What’s more, Bestherbs also “forgot” to disclose that the product contains milk—which presents a serious threat to those with dairy intolerance or allergies.

So what’s the questionable company doing in response? It’s currently contacting customers via phone calls to notify them and advising them to visit a healthcare center. If you know anyone who stocked up on this “drug product,” let them in on the scoop and perhaps suggest one of these 21 Best Bags of Coffee For The Planet for the perfect AM perk instead.
