Following in the footsteps of its fast-food rivals, Wendy’s, Burger King and Boston Market, McDonald's is adding the classic southern dish to its menu, according to a Twitter post from a McDonald's franchise that operates locations throughout Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan. It’s not apparent yet if the sandwich will be rolled out nationally, but as of this afternoon, the item was not yet present on the official McDonald’s online menu. That means official nutrition information is not available yet, either.
Our suggestion: If you happen to be dining at a Golden Arches location that’s serving up pulled pork and want to give it a try, proceed with caution. If it’s anything like their rivals’ sandwiches it could cost you anywhere from a respectable 370 calories to a waist-widening 620! And, since many pulled pork sandwiches call for brown sugar, barbeque sauce, or both, you’ll get a massive hit of sugar and sodium, too. To err on the side of caution, split the sandwich will a fellow diner and opt out of the $5 combo meal, which comes with fries and a drink. Instead, order a side salad (only use a light drizzle of dressing) and ask for a cup for fountain water.
And if you're in a pinch and need to visit the Golden Arches, order one of these healthy meals from McDonald's.
