Whether you know her as the star of the legal drama series Suits or as Prince Harry’s soon-to-be wife, you’ve probably suspected that Meghan Markle works hard for that bod. And in this case, looks aren’t all that deceiving.
While she’s an avid yogi and healthy food devotee, Meghan also loves to indulge and satisfy her wine and French fry cravings in moderation. We reveal how the newly-engaged actress and model stays in royalty-ready shape. Psst, a chunk of her regimen just happens to make a cameo in our own 50 Best Weight Loss Tips!
She’s a Yogi
“Yoga is my thing,” Markle told Best Health before divulging that she grew up perfecting poses with her yoga-instructing mom. Meghan especially loves participating in hot yoga with her trainer Duncan Parviainen, who admitted that some of vinyasa yoga’s benefits include “increased flexibility and muscle strength, greater happiness, increased mental focus, a greater ability to relax, decreased anxiety and better sleep.”
She Starts Her Day Right
“I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends,” Meghan said in her Best Health interview. She also eats cleaner when she’s shooting for Suits and starts her day with metabolism-revving hot water with lemon. She follows up hydration with steel-cut oats topped with banana and a drizzle of agave syrup. When she’s not filming, Markle opts for a savory omelet with fresh herbs and cheese with a side of toast.
She’s All About Balance
…and vino. “Of course I’m going to have that glass of wine–it’s delicious and I enjoy it,” she admitted To Best Health. In fact, the actress dished to Delish that she’d choose a “big, beautiful red” over a chocolate dessert almost always. And her love for antioxidant-rich wine is definitely justified. “Do the things you enjoy within reason. Know your body and what works for you and you’ll be fine,” she told Best Health.
She Eats Clean, Most of the Time
“I definitely try to eat as clean as possible. I definitely just try to avoid the things that I know are going to make me feel lethargic or sluggish,” she told Shape. “I eat mostly just fish and veggies—but I am also a foodie.” some of her go-to lunches include a salad with some kind of protein (we say go for the lean, grilled, and wild-caught offerings!) or seafood and a side of fries, which she shares with pals. “Because I work out the way I do, I don’t ever want to feel deprived. I feel that the second you do that is when you start to binge on things. It’s not a diet; it’s lifestyle eating.”
She Snacks Smart
The Suits star’s snack of choice is apple slices smeared with almond butter and sea salt. And she swears by energizing green juice in place of coffee. “Green juice is a food-as-medicine philosophy for me,” she told Delish of her afternoon pick-me-up. Want to get on the trend, too?
