But the problem is that without the proper nutritional guidance, there's a chance you may wind up ordering one of these dietary disasters.

We researched the menus at the nation's most popular restaurants and crunched the nutritionals to discover the absolute unhealthiest orders on restaurant menus. We sorted them into appetizers, salads, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, burgers, other entrées, breakfast, beverages, and desserts.

To help you make the right decisions when you're dining out and ordering in, we've compiled these foods into this list of 101 unhealthiest menu items that are so unhealthy that they're basically evil. Yes, evil—these diet saboteurs are looking to wreak havoc on your blood pressure, blood sugar, and your waistline! Next time you order out, steer clear of these menu disasters and be sure to load up your kitchen with any of The 7 Healthiest Foods to Eat Right Now.

Appetizers

These appetizers set your meal up for disaster early.

Chili's White Spinach Queso

1,430 calories, 87 g fat (28 g saturated fat, 1 g trans fat), 3,110 mg sodium, 127 g carbs (12 g fiber, 10 g sugar), 37 g protein

Chips and dip are never a good idea—the snack is super caloric and packs in an outrageous amount of fat, carbs, and sodium, without much else. If you're looking to order a starter at Chili's, go with the Original Chicken Crispers, which boasts much fewer calories and grams of fat than this pick. Plus, make this swap, and you'll save a full day's worth of sodium.

Uno Pizzeria & Grill's Mucho Nachos

1,700 calories, 61 g fat (14 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 3,930 mg sodium, 199 g carbs (1 g fiber, 13 g sugar), 66 g protein

Uno's Mucho Nachos are as excessive as they sound: the plate is chock-full of tortilla chips, cheddar, mozzarella, salsa, beef chili, black olives, banana peppers, and jalapeños, and topped with a generous dollop of sour cream. That fatty combo delivers about three-quarters of the recommended daily intake of saturated fat and over 1,600 more milligrams of sodium than what you should eat in an entire day.

Uno Pizzeria & Grill's Pizza Skins

1,970 calories, 131 g fat (43 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 2,800 mg sodium, 146 g carbs (7 g fiber, 8 g sugar), 53 g protein

If you're dining at Uno, we're guessing you're here for the infamous deep dish pies. But if you're looking to pregame your pizza with a cheesy appetizer, you'll want to split this fat-filled and carb-loaded platter with a party of six. The joint's signature thick crust is stuffed with even more carbs with the addition of mashed potatoes and then topped with bacon and cheddar.

Chili's Texas Cheese Fries with Chili (Full Order)

plate of texas cheese fries from chilis
Chilis
1,650 calories, 110 g fat (45 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 3,650 mg sodium, 99 g carbs (8 g fiber, 3 g sugar), 68 g protein

Cheese fries on their own are caloric, so why add bacon, jalapeños, green onions, and ranch to the mix? Not only will you get a plate of soggy fries, but you'll also ingest as much sodium as almost four Auntie Anne's Original pretzels and more than four days' worth of saturated fat!

The Cheesecake Factory's Buffalo Blasts

Courtesy of The Cheesecake Factory
1,670 calories, 93 g fat (25 g saturated fat, 1.5 g trans fat), 7,080 mg sodium, 129 g carbs (10 g fiber, 11 g sugar), 78 g protein

The Cheesecake Factory denotes that these pork belly sliders serve two to four people—so make sure you bring your friends to help you polish this off. Chicken, cheese, and buffalo sauce are all stuffed in a fried spiced wrapper, bringing you at app with an alarming amount of sodium.

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse Loaded Nachos with Chicken

bjs brewhouse loaded nachos
Mark G/Yelp
2,750 calories, 159 g fat (87 g saturated fat, 1 g trans fat), 5,570 mg sodium, 174 g carbs (26 g fiber, 40 g sugar), 158 g protein

Loaded nachos may be a crowd pleaser, but this rendition isn't doing your body any favors. This finger food will cost you over two and a half days' worth of sodium. And that's before you even order the main entrée.

Applebee's The Classic Combo

applebees classic combo
Applebee's
Without sauce or dressing: 2,220 calories, 126 g fat (37 g saturated fat, 1.5 g trans fat), 6,160 mg sodium, 190 g carbs (15 g fiber, 17 g sugar), 82 g protein

Applebee's advertises that you're getting "all the classic apps you love" on one plate, but 2,220 calories worth of boneless wings, spinach and artichoke dip, brisket quesadilla, and mozzarella sticks aren't pulling our heartstrings. With a staggering 6,160 milligrams of sodium—which is equivalent to spooning just over 2.5 teaspoons of the salty stuff into your mouth—we don't think this appetizer is worth the nutritional setback.

Outback Steakhouse's Bloomin' Onion

Outback steakhouse bloomin onion
Outback Steakhouse/Facebook

1250 calories, 54 g fat (8 g saturated fat, 0.5 g trans fat), 6,350 mg sodium, 200 g carbs (27 g fiber, 34 g sugar), 27 g protein

Just as Outback is known for its iconic pumpernickel bread, folks also come to the steakhouse for its Bloomin' onion. While the calorie, sodium, and carb counts are clearly excessive, we're most intrigued by the fried onion's outrageous trans fat content. Because there's no naturally occurring trans fat from animal products in here, that means that Outback is frying its veggie in partially-hydrogenated oil, which has been linked to heart disease as a result of increasing your blood's LDL (bad cholesterol) and reducing the HDL (good cholesterol).

Red Lobster's Langostino Lobster Artichoke Seafood Dip

Courtesy of Red Lobster
1,190 calories, 74 g fat (21 g saturated fat, 1 g trans fat), 2,160 mg sodium, 92 g carbs (11 g fiber, 10 g sugar), 36 g protein

While this app sounds like the ultimate upgrade to chips and dip, you'll want to think twice before diving into this dish. It's packed with Langostino and Norway lobster, artichokes, spinach, three types of cheeses, pico de gallo, and warm tortilla chips on the side, and you'll take in almost a full day's worth of sodium before you even fork into your entrée.

The Cheesecake Factory's Factory Nachos with Spicy Chicken

Cheesecake factory nachos with spicy chicken
Courtesy of The Cheesecake Factory
2,950 calories, 210 g fat (85 g saturated fat, 6 g trans fat), 3,170 mg sodium, 180 g carbs (22 g fiber, 29 g sugar), 88 g protein

Leave it to The Cheesecake Factory to dish up one of the most caloric restaurant appetizers in the country. While these stacked nachos serve two to four people, they still manage to cram in the most calories and fat out of all the appetizers on our list. These spicy-chicken-topped nachos boast as much sodium as 1.7 teaspoons of salt, so if you wouldn't spoon that into your mouth, then why would you order this plate?

Salads

These salads are anything but healthy.

Chili's Quesadilla Explosion Salad

1,340 calories, 87 g fat (24 g saturated fat, 0.5 g trans fat), 2,140 mg sodium, 82 g carbs (9 g fiber, 17 g sugar), 58 g protein

The "explosion" is what happens to your mind when you realize what's in this "salad." Chili's highest-calorie salad will supply you with trans fat, thanks in no small part to its "garnish"—an order of cheese quesadillas!

Applebee's Oriental Chicken Salad with Crispy Chicken

applebees oriental chicken salad
Courtesy of Applebee's
1,570 calories, 105 g fat (17 g saturated fat, 1 g trans fat), 1,730 mg sodium, 120 g carbs (11 g fiber, 44 sugar), 41 g protein

Why is this salad so hefty in every nutritional across the board? Part of it is that the salad is served with a golden brown signature breadstick and it already contains rice noodles, hence the high carb content. Then there's the dressing. And to complete the triumvirate of dietary doom, it's topped with a generous pile of fried chicken bits. What exactly makes this a salad again?

California Pizza Kitchen Waldorf Chicken Salad

California pizza kitchen salad
California Pizza Kitchen

Per Full Size: 1,320 calories, 94 g fat (22 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat) 2,020 mg sodium, 76 g carbs (10 g fiber, 54 g sugar), 54 g protein

CPK's salad menu is littered with high-calorie full salads, such as this one. There's no reason that this salad should cost you over a grand of calories. It contains field greens, grilled chicken breast, grapes, green apples, candied walnuts, celery, Gorgonzola cheese, and housemade Dijon balsamic vinaigrette. When mixed together in reasonable proportions, there's nothing inherently wrong with these ingredients. However, CPK's behemoth portion sizes will throw your entire day off-kilter. Choose the full size of the Roasted Veggie salad instead to save about 600 calories.

Cheesecake Factory Chinese Chicken Salad

1,050 calories, 62 g fat (8 g saturated fat, 0.5 g trans fat), 1,990 mg sodium, 86 g carbs (6 g fiber, 44 g sugar), 39 g protein

Bet you weren't expecting to consume the sugar equivalent of 41 Haribo gummy bears in a salad, were you?

TGI Friday's BBQ Chicken Salad with BBQ Ranch Dressing

Courtesy of TGI Fridays
990 calories, 56 g fat (15 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat) 2,540 mg sodium, 73 g carbs (13 g fiber, 30 g sugar), 54 g protein

While this salad is high in calories coming in at nearly 1,000 calories, the real kicker here is the sodium content, packing nearly 2,600 milligrams. In one salad. No thanks.

California Pizza Kitchen BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad

california pizza kitchen bbq chopped salad

Per Full Size: 1,190 calories, 74 g fat (18 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat) 1,670 mg sodium, 81 g carbs (14 g fiber, 20 g sugar), 55 g protein

You know something's amiss when the salad packs more than twice as many calories as the pizza. It goes without mention that this is not a healthy choice.

On the Border Grande Taco Salad With Ground Beef

Michael N./Yelp

730 calories, 48 g fat (18 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 1,680 mg sodium, 41 g carbs (9 g fiber, 8 g sugar), 33 g protein

This beltline-busting bowl even has trans fats—no thanks!

California Pizza Kitchen Thai Crunch Salad

Per Full Size: 1,180 calories, 72 g fat (9 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat) 1,720 mg sodium, 88 g carbs (14 g fiber, 50 g sugar), 56 g protein

This salad packs more sugar than two Hershey chocolate bars. Enough said.

Ruby Tuesday Crispy Chicken Ranch Salad

1,029 calories, 67 g fat (15 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 2,266 mg sodium, 56 g carbs (2 g fiber, 8 g sugar), 39 g protein

When you sat down for dinner at Ruby Tuesday, did you expect to blow through your entire day's sodium budget on just one salad?

Pizzas

You might want to resist one of these slices.

Little Caesars' DEEP!DEEP! Dish 3 Meat Treat Pizza

Per slice, 14-inch pizza: 434 calories, 21 g fat (9 g saturated fat, 0.4 g trans fat), 908 mg sodium, 40 g carbs (2 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 19 g protein

This thick crust pizza pie is stacked high with three kinds of meat: pepperoni, Italian sausage, and bacon. One slice packs one gram more of saturated fat than what one Hershey's chocolate bar contains. At least with the chocolate bar, you skip out on 200 calories.

Pizza Hut's Pepperoni Lover's, Large Original Pan Pizza

Pizza Hut/Facebook

Per slice, 14-inch large pizza: 430 calories, 23 g fat (9 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 1,070 mg sodium, 37 g carbs (2 g fiber, 3 g sugar), 20 g protein

This pizza pie lures all of the pepperoni lovers of the world, but it comes at a price to your health. If you really love pepperoni but don't want to lose 430 calories over it, you could opt for the normal pepperoni large original pan for 380 calories, 7 grams of saturated fat, and 840 milligrams of sodium. It's not the best option you could eat, but it's the lesser of two evils here.

Pizza Hut Meat Lover's, Large Original Pan Pizza

Per slice, 14-inch large pizza: 480 calories, 28 g fat (10 g saturated fat, 0.5 g trans fat), 1,180 mg sodium, 37 g carbs (2 g fiber, 3 g sugar), 20 g protein

It's pretty obvious where this gargantuan slice of pizza gets its calories from, yes? Pizza Hut's Meat Lover's pizza has got it all—pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, pork, and beef. One large slice of this pizza contains more calories and total fat than a double cheeseburger at McDonald's.

Mellow Mushroom Great White Pizza

Mellow Mushroom/Facebook

Per slice, large pizza: 520 calories, 31 g fat (11 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 1,070 mg sodium, 50 g carbs (3 g fiber, 3 g sugar), 25 g protein

Um, 530 calories for a cheese pizza? That's a lot of calories for a single slice of pie with no toppings. Mellow Mushroom, what kind of cheese are you layering this pizza with over there? It turns out, this option contains a lot more than just your standard shredded mozzarella. Here's what the site says is on the caloric slice: "Olive oil and garlic base with sun-dried roasted tomatoes, provolone, feta cheese, seasoned ricotta, fresh basil, mozzarella, roma tomatoes, and onions." Did you drool? Hopefully, you didn't, because one slice makes up about a quarter of your daily calories—yes, that is only for just one slice!

Mellow Mushroom Mighty Meaty Pizza

Per slice, large pizza: 520 calories, 27 g fat (9 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 1,390 mg sodium, 46 g carbs (2 g fiber, 3 g sugar), 31 g protein

Are we beginning to see a trend here? Pizzas that are loaded in meat inevitably contain more calories, fat, and sodium. Mellow Mushroom's Mighty Meaty pizza is the perfect example with pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, and bacon, which hikes up the calorie count to over 500 for a single slice.

Mellow Mushroom Buffalo Chicken Pizza

mellow mushroom buffalo chicken pizza with ranch and buffalo sauce swirl
Scotty C./Yelp

Per slice, large pizza: 550 calories, 34 g fat (9 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 1,630 mg sodium, 48 g carbs (2 g fiber, 3 g sugar), 28 g protein

Mellow Mushroom strikes again with yet another high-in-calories pizza. Not only does the Buffalo Chicken variety cost you 550 calories per large slice, but it also costs you 1,630 milligrams of sodium. For perspective, that's as much sodium that's in about 17 Snyder's Pretzel Rods.

Sbarro's NY Pepperoni Slice

sbarro pepperoni pizza
Courtesy of Sbarro
Per XL slice, 17-inch large pizza: 552 calories, 23 g fat (10 g saturated fat, 1 g trans fat), 1,459 mg sodium, 61 g carbs (5 g fiber, 9 g sugar), 25 g protein

Technically, this is an extra-large pizza slice, but we thought we would toss this classic slice of pepperoni in the lineup because of how caloric it is. Not to mention, if you've ever popped into a Sbarro (it's a staple at just about any major mall) you'll notice that it's the only size you can get, which subjects you to more calories, saturated fat, and sodium, without giving you a choice to opt for a smaller slice. Yikes!

Uno Pizzeria and Grill Chicago Classic Pizza

Per slice, large pizza: 650 calories, 46 g fat (14 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 1,260 mg sodium, 33 g carbs (1 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 26 g protein

Uno's Chicago Classic is the chain's attempt at emulating Chicago's deep dish pizza. However, be warned, because this pizza is packing in calories—over 600, to be exact. What's even more concerning is the saturated fat content at 14 grams. The American Heart Association recommends that you consume no more than 13 grams of saturated fat in one day to prevent heart disease. With this slice of pizza, you get your daily amount and then some. It better be worth sacrificing your entire day's worth in just one sitting.

Uno Pizzeria and Grill Chicago Meat Market Pizza

uno chicago deep dish meat market pizza
Michael C./Yelp
Per slice, large pizza: 680 calories, 42 g fat (11 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 1,490 mg sodium, 35 g carbs (2 g fiber, 3 g sugar), 26 g protein

There's a reason why this pizza is called the Meat Market. Topped with layers of steak, meatballs, sausage, pepperoni, and mozzarella, this slice of pizza is chock-full of sodium. In fact, you'd have to drink more than two cups of Swanson's Chicken Broth to achieve the same amount of sodium.

Sbarro NY Meat Primo

sbarro meat primo
Sbarro/Facebook
Per XL slice, 17-inch large pizza: 600 calories, 28 g fat (12 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 1,740 mg sodium, 53 g carbs (4 g fiber, 6 g sugar), 32 g protein

Just one slice of this pizza and you've already consumed nearly 1,800 milligrams of sodium. And let us not ignore those 600 calories per slice, as there's a good chance you're going to enjoy more than one.

Pasta

You won't believe the nutritionals of these carb-heavy behemoths.

Cheesecake Factory Fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken

2,300 calories, 154 g fat (86 g saturated fat, 5 g trans fat), 2,720 mg sodium, 145 g carbs (6 g fiber, 9 g sugar), 85 g protein

Um, excuse me Cheesecake Factory? Why does this plate of fettuccini Alfredo contain a whopping 154 grams of total fat? For comparison, a stick of butter contains 92 grams of total fat, which isn't much greater than this meal.

Red Lobster Cajun Chicken Linguini Alfredo

Courtesy of Red Lobster

1,070 calories, 54 g fat (20 g saturated fat, 2.5 g trans fat), 2,800 mg sodium, 83 g carbs (8 g fiber, 5 g sugar), 63 g protein

This Cajun chicken pasta is towering in calories, saturated fat, and sodium. If you're adamant about ordering it, get the half portion or split it with a friend.

Olive Garden Asiago Tortelloni Alfredo with Grilled Chicken

olive garden tortelloni alfredo
Olive Garden
1,980 calories, 131 g fat (76 g saturated fat, 2.5 g trans fat), 3,720 mg sodium, 95 g carbs (5 g fiber, 9 g sugar), 112 g protein

Olive Garden brought back this creamy pasta dish in 2020, but perhaps this was better left staying a distant memory. With 131 grams of fat, you take in well over the FDA daily recommended 44 to 77 grams.

The Cheesecake Factory Louisiana Chicken Pasta

2,120 calories, 125 g fat (65 g saturated fat, 4 g trans fat), 4,030 mg sodium, 168 g carbs (10 g fiber, 16 g sugar), 83 g protein

This bowl of pasta has southern soul food written all over it. Unfortunately, this fried, creamy plate of heaven is not something to be praised. Just one serving contains 4 grams of trans fat, which is known to raise bad cholesterol levels known as LDL, according to the American Heart Association.

Romano Macaroni Grill Mama's Trio

romanos macaroni grill mamas trio
Courtesy of Romano's Macaroni Grill
2,110 calories, 129 g fat (56 g saturated fat, 2.5 g trans fat), 3,940 mg sodium, 140 g carbs (9 g fiber, 19 g sugar), 103 g protein

Don't let this photo fool you. While the portion sizes of this decadent chicken parmesan, lasagna bolognese, and fettuccine Alfredo appear to be modest, all three amount to more calories than you need in an entire day. If eaten in one sitting, the meal exceeds your entire day's worth of calories by about 100 calories—assuming you eat 2,000 calories a day—as well as your daily allowance of fat by just over 50 grams. Yikes!

The Cheesecake Factory Bistro Shrimp Pasta

Bistro shrimp pasta

2,010 calories, 131 g fat (58 g saturated fat, 3.5 g trans fat), 3,180 mg sodium, 152 g carbs (10 g fiber, 10 g sugar), 58 g protein

Who doesn't love a carb-laden bowl of creamy pasta? Unfortunately, like many dishes from the Cheesecake Factory, this one is chock-full of the bad stuff such as excess saturated fat, sodium, and even too much protein. All of which put extra stress on the heart. Do yourself a favor and skip the crispy beer battered shrimp pasta and opt for a more sensible menu item that costs you a quarter of the energy and nutrients!

The Cheesecake Factory Pasta Carbonara with Chicken

Courtesy of The Cheesecake Factory

2,330 calories, 158 g fat (70 g saturated fat, 3.5 g trans fat), 4,000 mg sodium, 141 g carbs (10 g fiber, 11 g sugar), 83 g protein

The Cheesecake Factory strikes out yet again with another fat-laden meal. The restaurant's pasta carbonara with chicken houses  70 grams of saturated fat, well above the recommended 13 grams the American Heart Association says is safe for heart health.

Carrabba's Fettuccine Weesie with Whole Grain Spaghetti

Carrabbas Fettuccine Weesie

1,430 calories, 86 g fat (52 g saturated fat, 2 g trans fat), 3,520 mg sodium, 108 g carbs (18 g fiber, 8 g sugar), 56 g protein

When you first glance at the list of ingredients in this dish, it's hard to imagine how it totals to be such a nutritional nightmare, with fresh ingredients like chopped scallions and mushrooms topped onto a bed of noodles. However, it's the lemon butter sauce and the portion size that pushes this dish's calorie, saturated fat, sodium, and carb contents over the edge.

Olive Garden Chicken & Shrimp Carbonara

Courtesy of Olive Garden

1,390 calories, 94 g fat (50 g saturated fat, 3 g trans fat), 2,050 mg sodium, 75 g carbs (3 g fiber, 10 g sugar), 64 g protein

Not only does this plate of pasta pack nearly a day's worth of sodium, but it also contains 3 grams of trans fat, an artificial fat that's been linked to heart disease. All of this is before you tack on the breadsticks and salad.

Carrabba's Rigatoni Campagnolo With Whole Grain Spaghetti

1,180 calories, 52 g fat (23 g saturated fat, 0.5 g trans fat), 3,240 mg sodium, 117 g carbs (24 g fiber, 18 g sugar), 61 g protein

With a staggering 3,270 milligrams of sodium, Carrabba's Rigatoni Campagnolo is one of the saltiest pasta dishes you get at a restaurant. This dish calls for several glasses of water if you decided to eat it all in one sitting!

TGI Friday's Chicken Parmesan Pasta

1,890 calories, 107 g fat (43 g saturated fat, 1.5 g trans fat), 4,130 mg sodium, 154 g carbs (9 g fiber, 22 g sugar), 74 g protein

Um, how is this dish so caloric and astronomically high in sodium? We'll tell you how. This pasta dish is doused in both marinara and alfredo sauces and sprinkled with a generous serving of shredded cheese and parmesan cheese. If you factor in the crispy breaded chicken and buttery, garlic breadstick, you can only imagine the amount of water you will have to guzzle after tackling this sodium-filled meal in one sitting.

Sandwiches

The humble sandwich becomes a monster meal when you order these picks.

1,960 calories, 126 g fat (60 g saturated fat, 3.5 g trans fat), 3,510 mg sodium, 99 g carbs (6 g fiber, 9 g sugar), 107 g protein

Just when you thought the cheesecake was the fattiest food item on the menu at the Cheesecake Factory, they offer a meal such as this. The sandwich packs 126 grams of total fat, 60 grams of which is pure saturated fat.

Perkins Patty Melt Sandwich

Courtesy of Perkins

1,170 calories, 79 g fat (31 g saturated fat, 2 g trans fat), 1,170 mg sodium, 61 g carbs (4 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 55 g protein

Perkins dishes up an old-fashioned patty melt, but not one you should eat often. Why? There are a lot of calories in this sandwich, and may we remind you that's without any sides. If you must satisfy your hankering for this classic burger, split with a loved one rather than eating the whole thing yourself.

Jersey Mike's #43: Chipotle Cheese Steak with mayonnaise

Courtesy of Jersey Mike's

Per regular sub on white bread: 980 calories, 61 g fat (19 g saturated fat, 0.5 g trans fat), 2,286 mg sodium, 63 g carbs (3 g fiber, 9 g sugar), 46 g protein

The #43 Chipotle Cheese Steak sandwich can be found under Jersey Mike's hot subs list. This sandwich packs more sodium that a person should be consuming in one meal and for those who already have high blood pressure, the AHA suggests consuming no more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day. Eating this sandwich in one sitting would not be ideal.

Jimmy John's Italian Nightclub

Per 8-inch sub on wheat: 930 calories, 46 g fat (14 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 2,850 mg sodium, 77 g carbs (6 g fiber, 5 g sugar), 48 g protein

Jimmy John's has a knack for naming their sandwiches after different clubs, and for making them all high in sodium. Several slices of salami, capicola, ham, and provolone drizzled with vinegar sit between the sub bun, all of which hike up the sodium content and fat content. For a healthier option, order this sandwich without the bun and have it with a lettuce wrap instead. Not only does this cut the number of calories in half, but it also cuts the sodium count down to 2,110 milligrams, which is still very high but nonetheless an improvement.

Arby's Half Pound French Dip & Swiss with Au Jus

Courtesy of Arby's

740 calories, 35 g fat (16 g saturated fat, 2 g trans fat), 3,400 mg sodium, 52 g carbs (2 g fiber, 3 g sugar), 55 g protein

The AHA estimates that the average American consumes about 3,400 milligrams of sodium every single day—well over the suggested allotment of 2,300 milligrams. This sandwich—served with au jus—amounts to that extraordinarily high number on its own. The au jus is a French culinary term for a reduction sauce made from the juices that collect from roasting red meat and either stock or broth. One cup of Swanson's Beef Broth contains a whopping 833 milligrams of sodium alone, and that's all for only 15 calories.

Jersey Mike's #44: Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak

Courtesy of Jersey Mike's

Per regular sub on wheat: 850 calories, 43 g fat (13 g saturated fat, 0.7 g trans fat), 3,346 mg sodium, 70 g carbs (6 g fiber, 13 g sugar), 51 g protein

At 3,346 milligrams of sodium, this sandwich packs way over the amount of sodium you're supposed to consume in one day. Between the chicken, blue cheese dressing, and hot sauce, this sandwich takes the cake as one of the most sodium-ridden. There must be a lot of hot sauce on here, with just one tablespoon consisting of 460 milligrams of the stuff.

Potbelly Wrecking Ball, Originals

pot belly wrecking ball sub sandwich
Maggie C./Yelp

960 calories, 56 g fat (19 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 2,210 mg sodium, 67 g carbs (7 g fiber, 8 g sugar), 56 g protein

This sandwich came into Potbelly's secret underground menu like a wrecking ball. Perhaps only devout Potbelly customers know about the sandwich shop's underground menu, on which this behemoth sandwich can be found. This sandwich is just like the "A Wreck" sandwich on the menu, which consists of ham, turkey, Angus roast beef, and salami, except this one stacks on a few meatballs with marinara sauce and provolone cheese, and is then topped with tomato, lettuce, and mayo. Honestly, with that lineup of both processed meat, it's hard to believe this sandwich doesn't contain 3,000 milligrams of sodium. Still, at a staggering 2,210 milligrams of sodium, this sandwich falls 90 milligrams short of wiping out an entire day's worth of sodium.

Firehouse Subs' Steak & Cheese

Courtesy of Firehouse Subs

Per medium sub: 830 calories, 51 g fat (13 g saturated fat), 2,310 mg sodium, 53 g carbs (2 g fiber, 6 g sugar), 38 g protein

This cheesesteak from Firehouse Subs is loaded in sodium. Crumbles of sautéed steak, slices of melted provolone, and a swath of mayonnaise and mustard all contribute to this extraordinarily high sodium content. For context, one teaspoon of salt is equivalent to 2,300 milligrams of sodium—imagine how thirsty you would be after that. Well, eating this sandwich will yield a similar experience.

Per large sub: 1,450 calories, 81 g fat (21 g saturated fat), 4,110 mg sodium, 118 g carbs (6 g fiber, 36 g sugar), 69 g protein

We like to think that if you're ordering a large sandwich, you're also planning to share. But even if you are splitting this fully-loaded Italian sub, the amount of calories and sodium is enough to scare anyone away.

And ideally, you should limit your saturated fat intake to just 13 grams a day to prevent heart disease and stroke, according to the American Heart Association.

The picture does all of the talking for us. This burger is truly an artery-clogging monster with 42 grams of saturated fat and more than 3,000 milligrams of sodium. Not to mention, it packs nearly 100 grams of protein, which is far too much for your body to metabolize all at once. In fact, different experts say that the body can only utilize between 15-35 grams of protein at a time for muscle-building.

Buffalo Wild Wings Cheese Curd Bacon Burger without French Fries

Now what you have here is no basic burger, as there is no bun. Instead, you're biting into a burger that is topped with bacon and sauce and served up between a cheese quesadilla. Yes, you read that right. This makes for a meal that is extremely high in fat, sodium, and carbs.

1,500 calories, 82 g fat (25 g saturated fat), 5,750 mg sodium, 114 g carbs (9 g fiber, 14 g sugar), 76 g protein

The Cheesecake Factory Chicken Katsu

2,520 calories, 142 g fat (51 g saturated fat, 3.5 g trans fat), 4,540 mg sodium, 201 g carbs (8 g fiber, 40 g sugar), 112 g protein

Even though this behemoth dish is reserved for Cheesecake Factory goers in Hawaii, we're still shocked the chain would even offer something like this. It's packed with fat, sodium, and protein. Beware though, this seemingly harmless chicken and rice dish is not something you want to indulge in, especially all at once!

2,470 calories, 173 g fat (52 g saturated fat, 1 g trans fat), 6,590 mg sodium, 122 g carbs (7 g fiber, 55 g sugar), 106 g protein

When it comes to Chili's Smokehouse Combos, these meals can be different for everyone since you customize it yourself. You get to choose from three types of meat, which you eat alongside ribs and sides. You can choose three dishes from their list, so we chose the brisket quesadillas, honey chipotle crispers with ranch, and the ribs (dry rub). As you can imagine, this makes for an entrée that is high in calories, sodium, fat, and sugar.

Oh, and you also get four sides—roasted street corn, homestyle fries, chile-garlic toast, and garlic dill pickles.

The Cheesecake Factory Fish & Chips

1,860 calories, 121 g fat (24 g saturated fat, 1 g trans fat), 2,960 mg sodium, 133 g carbs (8 g fiber, 30 g sugar), 53 g protein

Fish is without question one of the healthiest foods you can eat. However, this dish covers everything that was healthy with batter and oil. Not only is the fat content of 121 grams a day and a half's worth of your recommended daily allowance of 78 grams, but it also packs a gargantuan amount of sodium. For context, you should consume a max of 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day, and this meal exceeds that value by over 600 milligrams.

This meal has as much fat as 10 tablespoons of butter. Even more disturbing is the trans fat content at a whopping 6 grams. Considering you shouldn't consume trans fat in your diet, this makes us very concerned that one meal packs so much artery-clogging fat. Steer clear of this menu item, friends.

Courtesy of Outback Steakhouse

1,960 calories, 160 g fat (76 g saturated fat, 9 g trans fat), 1,430 mg sodium, 9 g carbs (1 g fiber, 7 g sugar), 120 g protein

It's not surprising that consuming this much red meat would cost you a day's worth of calories and more than three day's worth of saturated fat. However, what truly takes the cake here is that alarming 9 grams of trans fat. For perspective, you shouldn't be consuming any trans fat in a given day, so the fact that this meal provides 9 grams is enough reason to steer clear.

OK, we get the appeal here, this dish marries two iconic breakfast meals into one. A sugary, buttery cinnamon roll is molded into three large, fluffy pancakes. With over 200 grams of carbs and 137 grams of sugar, this is one of the worst meals you can start your day with. In fact, you wipe out your entire day's worth of each nutritional except for fiber and protein.

This 40-ounce cup boasts bananas, strawberries, turbinado sugar, weight gain blend, a super grains blend, and butter pecan ice cream. You'll see that there are 295 grams of sugar, and 183 of those grams are "added sugar." That is just excessive! Plus, liquid calories are absorbed more quickly than solid calories, because the digestion process is quicker. That's a sugar rush that will send you flying for a short period of time, and then, of course, will follow a crash.

We're shocked that Jamba Juice even allows people to buy a smoothie that has nearly 1,000 calories and 120 grams of sugar. If you wouldn't pound three-and-a-half cans of soda in one sitting, you should be skipping out on this waist-expanding smoothie.

The team at Eat This, Not That! advises strongly against that, seeing as the raspberry flavor of the classic drink costs you nearly 500 calories and 76 grams of sugar. There are six types of chocolate here served with vanilla bean ice cream that creates a dish that is more than 2,000 calories and has 3.5 grams of trans fat. Even if you split this dish evenly with someone else, that doesn't make it any better. And 191 grams of sugar? Scary!

Speaking of love, we can absolutely identify why someone may have a burning desire to spoon into this sundae, with drizzles of creamy peanut butter and hot fudge topping serpentining through scoops of peanut butter and fudge ice cream.
