Think about it: The Beatles had Paul McCartney, The Jackson Five had Michael Jackson and Destiny’s Child had Beyoncé. Fruits and veggies? They have the six standout stars below. What makes them better than the other picks in the produce aisle? They’re packed with the highest concentration of nutrients that ward off chronic disease and illness, according to a recent report by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). (They’re low in calories, too, making them great additions to just about any weight loss plan.)

To find these paragons of healthy produce, the researchers examined the nutrient density of 47 items commonly thought to be superfoods. The list was then narrowed down to 41 “powerhouse” fruits and veggies and ranked from most to least potent. Broken down by category, here are the best bets for your health and waistline:

Best Leafy Green: Watercress
Best Herb: Parsley (use it to make a delicious green smoothie)
Best Veggie: Red peppers
Best Fruit: Tomatoes (or oranges if you consider the tomato a veggie)
Best Citrus Fruit: Lemon (it makes a refreshing addition to detox water)
Best Berry: Strawberries
