The Weird Way McDonald’s Is Raising Your Grocery Bill

Though fast food may save you money upfront, eating at places like McDonald’s can ding your wallet down the road — but not for the reasons you may think.

Soon after news broke that McDonald's would be offering all-day breakfast, there came reports about what this might mean for the ever-looming egg shortage — and your bank account. Because the Golden Arches is the world's largest fast-food chain, the demand for McMuffins (one of the Best Breakfast Sandwiches for Weight Loss) is said to eat away at the country’s ever-shrinking supply of eggs. Though it may be hard to believe just one restaurant could majorly impact the entire lot, Bloomberg reports that when Ronald McDonald makes even a small menu change, it affects the entire food industry.

Earlier this summer, analysts predicted that a dozen could cost $6 by the end of the year — but that was before the chain announced 24/7-morning meals. (To put that into perspective, the current average is hovering around $2.60.) So chances are good those estimated numbers will shoot up exponentially once all those extra breakfast sandwiches start rolling out.
