This Major Grocery Store Chain Is Opening Up 70 New Locations
While we are living in a time where the food industry has taken a hit, with many restaurants and grocery stores closing up shop for good, there is a major grocery chain that is expanding. The one and only Aldi is making big moves and just announced it will be adding more locations in the United States.
The Germany-based discount chain is set to open more than 70 stores by the end of the year. It has been said that the grocery chain has already hit another milestone in June of 2020, now operating 2,000 stores.
"We are very proud to reach the 2,000-store milestone," Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi U.S. said in a statement. "With each new store comes an opportunity to reach, serve and support new customers and communities, and we are thrilled to be able to offer these new shoppers the lowest possible prices on the foods they love."
Currently, Aldi is on track to snagging the spot as the third-largest supermarket chain right behind Kroger and Walmart. Aldi is known for selling items that tend to be much cheaper, with prices that are up to 50% less than those in traditional supermarkets. Additionally, more than 90% of the brands Aldi sells in stores happen to be its own private labels. The coronavirus pandemic has hit many places hard, but things at Aldi are clearly still on track.
"We're pleased to report the pandemic has not slowed our expansion plans. We've actually accelerated some of our growth recently, including the rollout of our Curbside Grocery Pickup service to nearly 600 stores to better serve customers," Hart said. "We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation and are doing everything we can to support as many customers as possible."
So where will these 70 new stores be located? Exact cities haven't been named yet, but the expansion is being reported to bring the store to the Phoenix, Arizona area for the first time. Other states said to be welcoming stores are New York, Texas, Kansas, and California, and there are plans to even open a new regional headquarters and distribution center in Alabama, which will help distribute goods to stores in Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana.
Aldi joins Meijer when it comes to expansion plans, as that grocery chain recently announced five new superstores are coming to Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio. Plenty of places to choose from when it comes to where you'll be buying your food!
