This Is The Best Coffee In The World, Says Science

This region has some of the healthiest people, and their coffee may have something to do with it.

Your favorite morning cup of coffee may have even more health benefits than you realize. Consumed in moderation, coffee has been found to help boost metabolism, lower your risk of heart disease and diabetes, help to lower blood pressure, and even help lower your risk of age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's.

Even though coffee from all over the world comes with health benefits, research has shown that Greek coffee, in particular, may actually be one of the healthiest coffees in the world.

According to a study from Vascular Medicine, the coffee consumed in the Greek region of Ikaria, which is known as one of the healthiest places in the world, is prepared in a way that has powerful heart-healthy benefits.

The most common way to prepare coffee in America is to use a filtered, brewing method. The Ikarians, however, make their coffee by boiling it.

According to the study, the boiling method is more effective in preserving the polyphenols, or antioxidants, found in coffee, whereas a filtration method gets rid of many of them.

This study also found that the participants who consumed mainly Greek coffee on a daily basis ended up having a better endothelial function, which means the lining of their heart and blood vessels were in better shape than those who consumed other types of coffee.

One potential risk for coffee drinkers, in general, is that too much caffeine can cause issues for those at risk of high blood pressure. However, the study found that those with blood pressure risks could consume Greek coffee without their levels worsening.

This is most likely due to the fact that not only does this coffee have more concentrated antioxidants, but it actually has less caffeine than most coffee consumed by Americans.

The takeaway

Anytime the health benefits of coffee are discussed, it's important to keep in mind that how you prepare your coffee matters greatly. For example, drinking Greek coffee black is going to yield much better health results than loading it up with cream and sugar.

In fact, most of the health issues related to coffee have very little to do with the coffee itself and mostly to do with how we like to dress up our coffee here in America.

So, keep enjoying your cup of coffee and take advantage of its many health benefits! And if you want to try one of the world's healthiest types of coffee, you can try a recipe like this.
