This Fast-Food Chain Is Partnering With Walmart to Open New Locations
Craveable made-to-order grilled cheesesteaks, classic chicken wings, and loaded gourmet fries are coming to select Walmart food courts as a result of the big box retailer's new partnership with Charleys Philly Steaks.
Charleys, which currently operates more than 600 locations across 47 states, just announced the opening of its first Walmart location in Columbus, Ohio. The fast food chain plans to expand into 10 more Walmart stores in early 2021, according to QSR Magazine. (Related: McDonald's Is Making These 8 Major Upgrades.)
Besides the "No. 1 cheesesteak in the world," Charleys is bringing a dash of whimsy to Walmart thanks to a new restaurant design tailored specifically to families who are shopping. Customers can expect to find arcade games, a doodle wall, and a giant grill spatula perfect for selfies at the new locations, according to Brian Hipsher, chief marketing officer for Charleys.
"We are excited about this opportunity to partner with Walmart, and also to bring smiles to our guests with an updated and whimsical environment," Hipsher says. "It's all about having a little fun and taking a break from the hustle and bustle of a busy day."
For now, the whimsy may have to wait to take full flight. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the restaurant is currently offering limited in-store seating, with emphasis on online ordering, curbside pick-up, and third-party delivery. The brand recently launched a new mobile app and rewards program, making contactless ordering easier than ever.
If you do decide to visit the store during opening week, expect exclusive rewards when you check in at the location on the Charleys Rewards app. You could also win free food for a year through a special social media contest.
