This is Coca-Cola's first time making this type of beverage!

Hard seltzer is certainly having a moment, and Coca-Cola found a way to join this particular drink market. Through Topo Chico—a sparkling mineral water company from Mexico that they purchased in 2017—they were able to create a Topo Chico Hard Seltzer. This is the first hard seltzer that Coca-Cola has put on the market.

In a brief announcement on their website, the Coca-Cola Company says they are "committed to exploring new products in dynamic beverage categories, including hard seltzer. Topo Chico Hard Seltzer is an experimental drink inspired by Topo Chico sparkling mineral water, which has been popular with many mixologists."

While it's still up in the air if there will be flavors of Topo Chico Hard Seltzer, right now the only one advertised is a Tangy Lemon Lime. Topo Chico also sells a Twist of Grapefruit regular sparkling mineral water, yet it is unclear if there will be an alcoholic beverage to reflect it.

The news of this particular hard seltzer is exciting, but the details of the launch are still up in the air. Right now, the Coca-Cola Company has only expressed a launch in select cities in Latin America later this year. Details of the launch should be announced soon, and we're patiently crossing our fingers hoping this delicious beverage will also be available in the United States soon to follow.

The move to create a hard seltzer was a smart one for The Coca-Cola Company, given that hard seltzer sales are predicted to outsell beer by 2023. According to Nielsen data, hard seltzer sales grew by about 200 percent by Dec. 2019 and was close to $1 billion in annual sales in 2019.

Numerous other companies have hopped on the hard seltzer train including Bud Light, Corona, Natural Light. White Claw, one of the leading hard seltzer brands in the industry, even released a new set of flavors in Mar. 2020 in anticipation of increased sales in the summertime.

Even though there are many hard seltzers on the market, we are adamantly excited to give the Topo Chico Hard Seltzer a taste—hopefully in the near future. For now, we taste-tested the top 6 hard seltzers—here's our favorite.
