Demi Moore recently guest starred on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and while she was seemingly on the talk show to promote her film, Rough Night, Fallon seemed more intrigued by another topic. “You sent us a photo and it’s the most insane thing I’ve ever seen,” he said on the show, referencing an image of Demi smiling sans her front teeth. “How did this happen?” Fallon probed.
“I sheared off my front teeth. I’d love to say it was skateboarding or something really kind of cool, but I think I think it’s something that’s important to share, because I think it’s literally, probably after heart disease, one of the biggest killers in in America, which is stress,” the 54-year-old star revealed. “Stress sheared off my front teeth.”
Woah. While we all know stress can wreak havoc on both your mental and physical health, it’s pretty uncommon — although possible — to lose your chompers due to this common epidemic. So how did Demi fall victim to this dental issue?
Stressed out people can “clench and grind their teeth to an extent that they loosen and the supporting bone is destroyed,” Mark S. Wolff, D.D.S., Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care at the New York University College of Dentistry explained to Glamour.
Regularly scheduling dentist office visits in order to check your teeth’s mobility and ensure that each individual tooth isn’t coming in too much contact with your dental arch is super vital. Another thing to note: “They should also make sure there is no gum disease, which hastens the bone loss,” which can up your chances of losing a precious pearly white.
