This Popular Fast-Food Chain's Sauce Packets Are Exploding

Watch out if this condiment is sitting in your fridge.

Fast food that's bursting with flavor is normally a good thing, so getting a little messy while eating a burger or a chicken sandwich isn't the end of the world. That logic doesn't hold true if your favorite sauce from Chick-fil-A randomly explodes, as people are claiming on social media.

The allegations surfaced earlier this month in Reddit post about the chain's Polynesian sauce. Though Chick-fil-A's namesake condiment is its most popular sauce nationwide, Polynesian sauce is a fan-favorite on the East Coast.

The blend of mustard seed, oil, paprika, sugar, tomato paste, vinegar, and other spices comes in a rectangular plastic cup with a removable film. The author of the Reddit post claimed that Polynesian sauce "eats through the packaging over a few weeks"—"and gets everywhere!" (Related: McDonald's Is Making These 8 Major Upgrades.)

"They just easily explode," one commenter wrote in response. "Not sure why."

A different user, who claimed that they worked at a Chick-fil-A store, echoed the allegation.

"[I've] even had times when working and stocking the poly sauce [I've] found it randomly exploded in boxes," they wrote. "[I] guess that's just how it is."

Another individual citing their work experience claimed that "poor old me would get a hand full" of Polynesian sauce when they would open boxes of the condiment. Luckily, you can now buy 8- and 16-ounce bottles of Chick-fil-A sauces in grocery stores.

Eat This, Not That! has reached out to Chick-fil-A about the allegations—and to see if there's a proper way to store its Polynesian sauce. The original Reddit poster wondered if the reported issue had something to do with the acidity of the sauce. Until we know for sure, buying your own sauce may save you from a serious clean-up job.
