Though it may seem counterintuitive, you may be able to place that exact order at a Golden Arches location near you in the not-so-distant future. According to financial services firm Janney Capital Markets, McDonald's plans to add kale salads and smoothies to their menu in the next year or two. Although the Golden Arches has not confirmed or denied the rumors, we can’t decide if we’re stoked that they’re possibly adding healthier choices to their menu—or a bit concerned.
People are eating more kale than ever before, and the nutrient-packed green definitely holds the ultimate health-halo—which is exactly why we’re worried. If people order the kale-infused Mickey D’s items without thinking to look at the nutritional information, it could be a recipe for weight loss disaster. We’re confident that if anyone can figure out how to pack 1,000 calories into a kale salad, it's Ronald McDonald. Not to mention, the company launched an entire ad campaign at the beginning of this year poking fun at health-minded foodies who enjoy this leafy green.
As of right now, we don’t know for sure what to expect from the burger and fry franchise, but we’re curious to see what they end up adding to their menu in the coming months. We’ll be sure to keep tabs on the story as it develops and share more information as it becomes available.
