This Is Joe Biden's Favorite Food

Joe's just like us! Pasta and ice cream are his go-to pleasures.

So much has been written about President Donald Trump's food preferences. For example, the president deems McDonald's and Wendy's worthy of a White House meal, he credits French fries as the secret behind his hair, and he loves a good chocolate cake. But we've heard a lot less about what Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden likes to eat.

Luckily, former President Barack Obama has finally lifted the curtain. As it turns out, his former vice president "goes deep" on pasta with red sauce, as well as ice cream. In a personable campaign video from September, Biden's running mate Kamala Harris set out to learn more about what makes her partner tick. Naturally, she chatted with the one individual whose relationship to Biden has been well-documented as a "bromance." (Related: 15 Classic American Desserts That Deserve a Comeback.)

While the pasta with red sauce has us not only intrigued but also curious as to whether Biden is a tomato sauce purist or will eat any type of red-colored pasta concoction (which could include pasta fra diavolo, a spicier version of tomato sauce, or even a hearty bolognese), his love of ice cream is better known.

"I don't drink. I don't smoke. But I eat a lot of ice cream," Biden said in 2016, a statement which was recently affirmed by a peculiar campaign expense.

Eater reported that Biden's presidential campaign had spent $10,000 on ice cream back in April. That's no $70,000 for hair care, but it definitely is a testament to Biden's love for the dessert. And it isn't just any ice cream the Democrat has been running on during his campaign. He is being fueled by Jeni's, an iconic brand based in Columbus, Ohio. The James Beard award–winning owner Jeni Britton Bauer is a prominent Biden backer, who even hosted the former veep at Jeni's headquarters for a conversation about wages.

All jokes aside, Joe Biden didn't actually eat $10,000-worth of ice cream himself. (Though, who could blame him if he did?) The dessert was a gift to campaign donors.

But what exactly is Biden's favorite flavor of ice cream? Judging by a tweet he posted at the end of September, he likes Jeni's Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks. He jokingly called the tub of ice cream his performance enhancer for the first presidential debate.

Biden put his love of ice cream on full display once again this week on National Dessert Day, this time in a post featuring a Dairy Queen Blizzard.
