Kanye West Gets Ridiculed for Serving Sad, Soggy Pancakes at Expensive "Brunchella" Performance—Photos

Say what you will about the music, but $55 is a steep price for soggy pancakes.

No matter how you cut it, a $55 meal is an expensive meal. Plop down that amount of dough and you'd reasonably expect, what, a ribeye so well-marbled it belongs in a museum? A prix fixe so decadent you could only dream of replicating it? Two soggy pancakes and a few stale pieces of breakfast meat?

Well, if you splurged for the meal service at Kanye West's November 1st "Brunchella" performance, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the latter is exactly what you got:

Yes, for $55 (OK, technically $54.66), guests were treated to a meal consisting of one (1) sausage patty, one (1) scoop of grits, one (1) spatula's worth of scrambled eggs, two (2) strips of bacon, and two (2) whole pancakes. What's worse, as attendee Kimberly Kinchen described on Facebook, the entire buffet was "cold" (and, even more criminally, she was reportedly denied another pancake upon request).

In other words: $55 bought what amounts to the complimentary continental buffet at your local Best Western hotel.

    There are pros and cons!

Quickly, the meal drew comparisons to that infamous cheese sandwich from 2017's Fyre Fest. If you'll recall, guests—who paid five-figure sums to attend a promotionally lavish musical retreat on a lush Caribbean island—expected a "chef-curated culinary experience" only to be met with… Well, whatever this thing on the right is:

After the social media uproar, Lauryn's Fine Catering, the company that provided last-minute catering for the event, addressed things in a Facebook post. "We regret that our food ordered by the organizers was not what the guests had envisioned, and did not remain hot at all times, as the warming dishes were susceptible to the 35 degree weather, and our goal was to serve the more than 2,000 VIP guests as quickly as possible."

Now, to be fair, even though the brunch add-on was indisputably overpriced, at least the concert itself was free. But even that didn't go off seamlessly. Kanye's performance was scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m., but, according to a report by Entertainment Tonight, the man himself didn't show up until 7:30.

West's latest album, Jesus Is King, released on October 25, 2019, and peaked at number one on the Billboard 200.
