But—as you might have suspected—there’s a catch. While the fast-casual giant isn’t handing out free guacamole at their brick and mortar restaurants, they have revealed the recipe so you can whip up your own at home. The best part—besides being able to BYOG from now on, that is? The recipe is super simple. What’s even more shocking is the taste. The majority of Chipotle fans who have whipped up the recipe agree that it actually tastes better than the stuff that comes from behind the counter—likely because it’s a bit fresher.
Yes, it’s downright delicious and today is Cinco de Mayo, but there’s yet another great reason to whip up a batch of the stuff: It can help you lose weight. Research participants who ate half an avocado daily (about 1/4th of the recipe below) had lower body mass and smaller waists than those who didn't, according to a Nutrition Journal study. Have we convinced you to head to your kitchen yet? That’s what we thought! Here’s how to make it:
2 ripe Hass avocados
2 tsp lime juice
2 tbsp cilantro, chopped
1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
1/2 jalapeño, including seeds, finely chopped
1/4 tsp kosher salt
How to Make It:
STEP 1: Cut the avocado in half and the remove the pit
STEP 2: Scoop the avocados and place in a medium bowl.
STEP 3: Toss and coat with lime juice. Add salt.
STEP 4: Using a fork or potato masher, mash until a smooth consistency is achieved.
STEP 5: Fold in the remaining ingredients and mix until combined.
