Dr. Bonney explains, "Cleansing and removing makeup and residue are essential for keeping skin healthy and to promote cell regeneration.  This is generally followed by an antioxidant serum rich in vitamin C, and a moisturizer which is gently massaged into the skin.  If the routine is in the evening, Retina may be a part or your routine."

Sun Protection

"This is non-negotiable when it comes to ageless beauty," Dr. Bonney states. "Sun protection is the first step in preventing the aging process.  Make sure it is broad spectrum so as to block UV/UVB rays." Says the Mayo Clinic: "Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun's ultraviolet, or UV, light. There are two types of UV light that can harm your skin: UVA and UVB. UVA is the long wavelength of light that penetrates to the deep layers of skin. UVA leads to skin damage over time that can prematurely age your skin, causing wrinkling and age spots. UVB is the shorter wavelength of light that penetrates the surface of the skin and causes sunburn. The best sunscreens offer protection from all UV light. These are labeled as 'broad-spectrum' or 'full-spectrum' sunscreens."

Dr. Bonney reminds us, "Sleep allows your skin to restore its natural balance.  During sleep your body produces more protein like collagen and elastin, both which are needed for skin restore and revitalization." "To improve your sleep, consider simple self-care tips — such as sticking to a sleep schedule and relaxing before bed. If you're thinking about using a sleep aid, know what you're getting yourself into. Over-the-counter sleep aids can be effective for an occasional sleepless night, but they're not meant for long-term use," says the Mayo Clinic.

According to Dr. Bonney, "Your skin benefits from the nutrients involved in a real/whole food diet rich in plants.  Antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins play an essential role in overall skin health. Proper hydration and exercise boost the radiance and resilience of your skin.  Focusing on lifestyle factors will improve the overall beauty of your skin and support healthy aging."

Botox

Dr. Bonney says, "If fine lines and wrinkles are bothering you and lifestyle and or routines are not helping you achieve your goals you may consider Botox, done properly it can soften wrinkles and help turn back time.  Be sure to select a qualified physician and speak to them about your goals for Botox. Expectations and results should be understood at the onset." "Botox injections are noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. They're also used to treat conditions such as neck spasms (cervical dystonia), excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), an overactive bladder and lazy eye. Botox injections may also help prevent chronic migraines," says the Mayo Clinic. "Botox must be used only under a doctor's care. It's important that injections be placed precisely in order to avoid side effects. Botox therapy can be dangerous if it's administered incorrectly. Ask for a referral from your primary care doctor or look for a doctor who specializes in your condition and who has experience in administering Botox treatments."
