This Grocery Item Is Expected to Fly Off Shelves in 2021
Hailed by nutritionists, chefs, and individual consumers alike, almond milk is having a moment right now. According to grocery industry experts, the plant-based milk's rapid growth and popularity may have no end in sight.
Almond milk sales are forecast to experience a 9% compound annual growth rate over the next ten years as more and more people turn to this dairy-free and mineral-rich beverage, reports a press release from Persistence Market Research published by PR Newswire. Almond milk is a rich source of calcium, magnesium, and iron, and is also high in healthy fats and vitamins. It is of course also a vegan-friendly beverage that can be used as a substitute for animal milks in many foods and beverages.
The milk has already far surpassed other dairy alternatives. For years, soy milk was the primary dairy alternative, with consumers spending $230 million annually on it by midsummer 2018, but it's been dramatically surpassed by almond milk. But at the same time, they spent almost five times as much on almond milk: a staggering $1.2 billion. Coconut milk came in third, with $104.5 million in annual sales, followed by rice milk with $41.6 million annually.
As of late fall 2020, almond milk sales looked set to near $1.4 billion in the United States, with Blue Diamond's Almond Breeze milk accounting for some $555 million of the total sales, reports Statista.
