CDC Just Issued This Urgent COVID Warning as Deaths Rise
After the devastating fall and winter surges of COVID-19, resulting in a huge uptick of infections, hospitalizations, and even deaths, many Americans have been comforted by declining numbers in recent weeks. However, on Monday during the White House COVID-19 Response Team Briefing, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that it is not time to let your guard down. Read on to hear what she had to say—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You've Already Had Coronavirus.
Dr. Walensky Said COVID Deaths are Increasing
Dr. Walensky started by giving an overview of the current state of the pandemic. "I remain deeply concerned about a potential shift in the trajectory of the pandemic," she expressed. "The latest CDC data continued to suggest that recent declines in cases have leveled off at a very high number. The most recent seven day average of cases, approximately 67,200 represents an increase of a little over 2% compared to the prior seven days. Similarly, the most recent seven day average of deaths has also increased more than 2% from the previous seven days to nearly 2,000 deaths per day. These data are evidence that our recent declines appear to be stalling, stalling at over 70,000 cases a day."
She continued to admit she is "really worried" about reports that "more states are rolling back the exact public health measures we have recommended to protect people" from the virus. "I understand the temptation to do this. 70,000 cases a day seems good compared to where we were just a few months ago, but we cannot be resigned to 70,000 cases a day, 2000 daily deaths."
Dr. Walensky Called the Variants "A Very Real Threat"
And, due to the highly transmissible variants continuing to spread at a more rapid rate, it is more important than ever to stick to the fundamentals.
"Please hear me clearly: at this level of cases with variant spreading, we stand to completely lose the hard earned ground we have gained. These variants are a very real threat to our people and our progress," she said. "Now is not the time to relax the critical safeguards that we know can stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Not when we are so close. we have the ability to stop a potential fourth surge of cases in this country. Please stay strong in your conviction, continue wearing your well-fitting mask and taking the other public health prevention actions that we know work. Ultimately, vaccination is what will bring us out of this pandemic to get there."
So follow Fauci's fundamentals and help end this pandemic, no matter where you live—wear a face mask that fits snugly and is double layered, don't travel, social distance, avoid large crowds, don't go indoors with people you're not sheltering with (especially in bars), practice good hand hygiene, get vaccinated when it becomes available to you, and to protect your life and the lives of others, don't visit any of these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch COVID.
