Costco is testing curbside pickup at three locations in the New Mexico area, and the new service may come to other stores soon, according to the chain's Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti.
Since January, customers in Albuquerque have had access to the same-day service powered by Instacart on orders with a minimum of $100. Shoppers can select a pickup window during online checkout for a $10 service fee. There are about 2,000 items up for grabs if you place an order for pickup, and prices reflect what items in the warehouse cost at the time of purchase. "The pilot's going well. Our members have responded to it, and basket sizes have actually surpassed our expectations," Galanti reportedly said about the curbside service on a call with investors last week. "Our focus, of course, is how can we be more efficient at doing it to determine if this offering can become scalable and make economic sense for us."
Currently, Costco offers same-day delivery through Instacart on the same fresh and shelf-stable selection of groceries. A minimum order of $35 is required, and there is also a service and delivery fee.
This is far from the only change that's coming to the warehouse. Fans are excited about the return of one beloved bakery item, and at least five more products are currently flying off store shelves.
