Costco Is Adding This Popular New Brand to Shelves
Costco has something for everyone, and there's an exclusive new plant-based chicken option at some locations for grocery shoppers who are vegetarian, vegan, or interested in eating less meat.
Warehouses in Los Angeles and Hawaii will carry bulk packages of Daring Foods plant-based chicken starting on April 5, according to VegNews. The meatless chicken, which is made from only five non-GMO ingredients, launched at 340 Sprouts Farmers Market locations last year. But while other grocery stores sell an 8-ounce version for $7.99, Costco will carry a 24-ounce pack for $12.99.
"Entering a retailer like Costco is a huge milestone for Daring, especially as we just recently celebrated our one year anniversary of launching our direct-to-consumer platform and expanding into retail," Ross Mackay, the company's co-founder and CEO, told VegNews. "Joining the lineup at Costco further signifies our commitment to growth and innovation, and we're thrilled to expand our retail footprint with this launch . . . We want Daring to be available for customers in every store and in every restaurant across the country."
The chicken has minimal ingredients, including soy protein, spices, sunflower oil, and wheat flour. Five pieces of the original breaded variety have 210 calories, 12 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbs, 11 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, and 540 milligrams of sodium.
