Costco Is Facing a Shortage of This Grocery Staple

"There is not yet an ETA for our next delivery."

Major grocery shortages were commonplace in 2020, but lately, chains have been increasing their inventories in order combat higher food costs. Recently, stores like Costco have been relaxing some pandemic-era rules like product limits. But could that be just a temporary move?

The warehouse chain is informing some customers that only five cases of any brand of water can be purchased due to a shortage, according to social media users. (Related: Popular Costco Foods That Are Making You Gain Weight, Say Dietitians)

Reddit user @Mustang500hp posted a photo of signs purportedly on display right now at an unidentified Costco. "We are currently out of water," one reads. "There is not yet an ETA for our next delivery. We apologize for the inconvenience."

While they didn't mention where the photo was taken, Reddit user @emarkay192 reported shortages in Illinois. "Kirkland gallons are gone from many stores," they wrote. "Out of stock online also. Tons of the smaller bottle packs. Just no gallons."

One Reddit user added that "Costco gets paper and water deliveries nearly every single day to keep up with demand. It only takes one missed delivery for them to be out of stock. Although with the signage that seems to be a bit more of a problem."

Another said they were told that "one of the Kirkland water bottling plants went down." Someone else pointed blame at Arrowhead.

Eat This, Not That! reached out to Costco for more information, but the company declined to comment on the apparent water shortage.
