Dunkin' Just Added This New Breakfast Menu Item

This item has it all—lots of protein and fewer calories.

New Year, new Dunkin' breakfast sandwich! And as its name suggests, the new sandwich on the menu is one addition that could help you maintain your health goals for 2021—and beyond.

The Southwest Veggie Power Breakfast Sandwich is part of Dunkin's push for more plant-based menu items. It features a MorningStar Farms Black Bean Patty and an egg white omelet with spinach, bell peppers, and onions on a multigrain bread thin. Topped with white cheddar cheese, this breakfast sandwich is now available to fuel your mornings at participating restaurants nationwide.

With so much veggie power comes healthy responsibility—and this sandwich is up for the task. It contains 26 grams of protein, 23 grams of whole grains, and 410 calories. That's more 5 more grams of protein and 310 fewer calories than the Sausage, Egg & Cheese sandwich on the menu.

You can also order the new sandwich without the MorningStar patty as a Veggie Egg White Omelet. This meal has 17 grams of protein, 290 calories, and 13 grams of fat. But both options do have more than 500 milligrams of sodium, meaning it's best to limit your consumption and drink plenty of water. The new sandwich joins the Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich, which debuted in 2019 on the plant-based side of the menu. Since then, Dunkin' has also introduced oatmilk as an option for its coffee and espresso beverages.

"This sandwich is really exciting for MorningStar Farms, because it delivers a veggie-centric option for Dunkin' guests—giving them a great plant-based protein patty," Dara Schuster, Senior Director of Marketing, Plant Based Protein at Kellogg Company, says. "Flexitarian eating is on the rise, and we're thrilled to deliver new menu items that can satisfy everyone."
