Dr. Fauci Says This Could End the Pandemic in Just Two Months
The coronavirus is still raging, with more than 150,000 cases a day. How can you stay safe? Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, made the media rounds this weekend to beg people to get vaccinated, and in doing so, revealed some key information that could save your life. Read on for 5 essential points from Dr. Fauci—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You've Already Had COVID.
Dr. Fauci Said He Thought Mandates Were Necessary
"We now have a pandemic of the unvaccinated. We have tried everything we can to get people to voluntarily get vaccinated. We've made it as easy as it can be," he told Arkansas' Mitch McCoy. "It's available, it's convenient, it's safe, it works and it's free, and yet there are still about 75 million people in the United States who are eligible to be vaccinated who have not gotten vaccinated. So it's gotten to the point where we've tried everything short of mandating. We've got to get those people vaccinated. And one of the ways to do it is to make it so, in fact if they want to continue to function normally in society and their jobs and what have you, they have to get vaccinated." Dr. Fauci says this makes you safe, your family safe and the community safe.
Dr. Fauci Said Herd Immunity is Still Possible
"If we get the overwhelming proportion of the population vaccinated, we will get there," he told The Skimm. "If we do it in the next six months, it will happen in the next six months. If we do it at the next two months, it'll happen in the next two months."
Dr. Fauci Said He'd Support Vaccine Mandates for Travel and Schools
"I would support that if you want to get on a plane and travel with other people, then you should be vaccinated," he told the Skimm. "So when you hear us say, should you mandate vaccination for children to be able to attend school? Some people say, oh my goodness, that would be terrible to do that. But we already do that and have been doing that for decades and decades. I don't know what school you went to, but the school that I went to, you had to be vaccinated, measles, mumps, rubella, polio, or otherwise you couldn't go to school. So it is not something new to mandate vaccines for school."
Dr. Fauci Said He Thought Mandates Could Help Turn Things Around
We may need "many, many" more mandates before we see real progress but then: "I believe that's going to turn this around because I don't think people are going to want to not go to work or not go to college … They're going to do it," Fauci said at the NLGJA, the Association of LGBTQ Journalists, convention Sunday. "You'd like to have them do it on a totally voluntary basis, but if that doesn't work, you've got to go to the alternatives."
How to Stay Safe Out There
Follow Fauci's fundamentals and help end this pandemic, no matter where you live—get vaccinated ASAP; if you live in an area with low vaccination rates, wear an N95 face mask, don't travel, social distance, avoid large crowds, don't go indoors with people you're not sheltering with (especially in bars), practice good hand hygiene, and to protect your life and the lives of others, don't visit any of these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch COVID.
