This Beloved Steakhouse Just Introduced a Major New Appetizer

Something new is bloomin' on Outback's menu.

When it comes to menus at steakhouse restaurant chains, it's rare for an appetizer to steal the spotlight. But that's exactly the case at Outback Steakhouse, where the Bloomin' Onion, a deep-fried flower petal-shaped onion creation, has been charming guests for three decades.

The appetizer is almost synonymous with the chain at this point. A statistic from 2015 showed that the fried onion made up a third of all appetizer sales at Outback, and the chain said it has sold 40 million Bloomin' Onions in three years between 2012 and 2015. Even Chrissy Teigen expressed her adoration for the simple app and asked the team at Outback to teach her how to make it at home (a request they happily obliged.)

So it's no wonder that the chain has since tried several new iterations of the appetizer. Last year, Outback concocted the Bloomin' Fried Chicken, a limited-time entree of a chicken cutlet spiced with the Bloomin' spices and deep fried. Now, they're at it again with a new crispy Bloomin' appetizer that's sure to become the next big crowd-pleaser. 

The chain has just launched the Bloomin' Fried Shrimp, a $12.99 appetizer that follows the same winning formula as the Bloomin' Onion. It features hand-breaded, bite-sized shrimp that are crispy-fried until golden brown, then drizzled and served with the brand's spicy bloom sauce. All the spices used in the making of the shrimp are the exact same ones used on the famous vegetarian version of the appetizer, too. 

For now, Bloomin' Fried Shrimp is a limited-time offer, available exclusively through the Outback Steakhouse app.
