Popeyes Just Added a Brand New Sandwich to Its Menu

Could this be the start of a "Fish Sandwich War" among fast-food chains?

After successfully creating a chicken sandwich that changed the fast-food industry, Popeyes is now hoping to disrupt the fish sandwich category. The company just announced a brand new Cajun Flounder Sandwich, and all the other fast-food fish sandwiches have much to fear.

The chain's latest creation consists of a flakey flounder filet, spiced in Cajun seasoning and fried, then served atop a buttery, toasted, brioche bun. Similar to the chicken sandwich, the fish sandwich includes only two simple toppings: barrel cured pickles and Popeyes legacy tartar sauce. (Related: McDonald's Is Making These 8 Major Upgrades.)

You can order the Cajun Flounder Sandwich at all nationwide locations starting Feb. 11 for $4.49. To help you take the leap, Popeyes is offering Sandwich Insurance: Yep, you can purchase insurance on your sandwich for 10 additional cents, which will allow you to get your fish sandwich replaced with the chicken sandwich in case you don't like it. (This is only available on launch day.)

However, Popeyes is confident they've got another star menu item in the making. The new Cajun Flounder Sandwich "delivers the flavor and crunch one would expect to find at a local dockside fish shack," the company said in a press release.

"After seeing the response to our Chicken Sandwich in 2019, we are excited to deliver yet another delicious sandwich to our fans that is sure to reset industry standards," said Popeyes president Sami Siddiqui. "At Popeyes, we don't take shortcuts on quality and strive to ensure our ingredients are the best of the best. That's why we're proud to be serving up the most authentic, Cajun Flounder Sandwich in QSR."
