McDonald's Just Brought Back This Rare Sold-Out Menu Item

And it happens to overlap with the Szechuan sauce.

The dust hasn't even settled yet around McDonald's recent re-launch of the Szechuan sauce, and the chain already has another surprise for its fans—a super popular nugget is back on the menu for a limited time.

According to USA Today, the Spicy Chicken McNuggets are now available at about 6,900 participating locations nationwide. And for those who need a refresher, they feature all-white chicken in a crispy breaded coating, which has a kick to it thanks to a blend of aged cayenne and chili pepper.

This first-ever flavor innovation on McDonald's Chicken McNuggets made its debut back in 2020, when it sold out in a matter of weeks. The Spicy nuggets made another appearance on the menu in 2021. The consensus both times? These puppies taste better than the original.

"The first thing I noticed is that these nuggets wear a reddish-hued shell that's slightly sturdier and crunchier than their plain counterpart (a bonus in my book). That tempura coating is seasoned with cayenne and chili peppers, which ignites your taste buds with a subtle but satisfying burn," Morgan Olsen wrote for Time Out back when the Spicy McNuggets first hit the scene.

Others say you really need the addition of the Mighty Hot dipping sauce—the chain's hottest sauce yet, which usually launches alongside the Spicy nuggets—to kick the heat up into spicy territory. "They're not bad. Very slight spice by itself. The new sauce goes really well with it, though. The sauce is also where they packed all the heat. It's not 'blow your socks off' hot, but it should put a little sweat on your brow," one Reddit user said.

You can check the Mickey D's app or website to find out whether your local McDonald's has the Spicy McNuggets. And while you're at it, try them with the Szechuan sauce—this may be the only instance the two limited-time greats overlap.
