This Is How Rebel Wilson Reached Her Goal Weight Early

The actress hit an important milestone ahead of schedule—here's her diet and fitness strategy.

Rebel Wilson's weight loss journey has been one of the most publicly followed wellness stories of 2020. The actress announced in January that she will be embarking on a "Year of Health," and has been keeping fans updated on her progress regularly. In her latest Instagram Story, Wilson announced she had hit a major milestone—she was down to her goal weight, and ahead of schedule!

"Hit my goal with one month to spare!" Wilson wrote. "Even though it's not about a weight number, it's about being healthy, I needed a tangible measurement to have as a goal and that was 75 kgs."

For those who want to hear the first-hand account of exactly how she has achieved weight loss success, Wilson will be going live on her Instagram at 6 p.m. EST today. But her workout schedule and diet plan have been outlined throughout the year in various interviews and social media updates, and here's what we know has worked for her. The actress used several strategies to attain her 40-plus-pound weight loss. According to her personal trainer Jono Castano Acero, Wilson had been working out six to seven times a week, supplementing her workouts with daily cardio exercises and getting her steps in.

"I encourage all my clients to do an extra bit of cardio during the day to keep moving. A little tip is get a watch or use your phone to count steps and aim for 10 thousand steps a day. If you're on 9000 steps at 10pm you have to get it done," Acero told HollywoodLife.

When it comes to her diet, Wilson has credited the Mayr Method with the constructive changes in her eating habits. She was introduced to the restrictive weight loss program, which is based on improving gut health, while visiting VivaMayr, a luxury medical detox and wellness center in Austria.

The physician-created program focuses on high-alkaline whole foods meant to reduce inflammation processes and help shed pounds, while avoiding foods that are acidic, like meat, dairy, most grains, and processed foods, as well as caffeine and alcohol. Another pillar of the Mayr Method is mindful eating, which means snacking is reduced to a minimum and followers are instructed to chew each bite of food for a longer amount of time to focus on the process of eating itself.

While mindful eating may not be the first thing that jumps out as an important step in a weight loss journey, Wilson seems to have benefitted from the cerebral approach. In a November interview with Drew Barrymore, she identified emotional eating as the reason behind her 3,000-a-day caloric intake (which is higher than recommended by public health guidelines) that had held her back from weight loss success in the past.

"I love my curves and stuff. I don't think I'll ever go too skinny, but I feel so much healthier," she told Barrymore.
