Starbucks Is Quietly Testing This Breakfast Sandwich For The First Time
Starbucks fans are in for a treat—well, a breakfast sandwich, actually. The coffee chain is testing a new breakfast menu item, and those who are dairy-free should prepare to be excited. A vegan Plant-Powered Breakfast Sandwich is available for customers to try, but only at one location in Washington state.
According to VegNews, the Plant Powered Breakfast Sandwich includes an Impossible sausage patty, a plant-based egg patty, and plant-based cheddar-style cheese on a toasted English muffin. The outlet speculates that the sandwich is made with JUST Egg, though that remains unconfirmed. Starbucks did confirm the item was being tested to Eat This, Not That!, adding that it was only available for a limited time.
This sandwich is unlike any others on Starbucks' menu. The chain began selling the vegetarian-friendly Impossible Breakfast Sandwich earlier this year as part of a summer menu revamp. It sandwiches an Impossible sausage patty, a cage-free fried egg, and aged cheddar cheese between a ciabatta roll. While the Impossible-branded sandwich packs in a lot of sodium, it also contains a whopping 22 grams of protein. (Related: here are the 21 Best Healthy Cooking Hacks of All Time.)
The vegetarian sandwich was quite the departure from iconic favorites like the Reduced-Fat Turkey Bacon and Egg White Breakfast Sandwich; the Bacon, Gouda and Egg Sandwich; or the Roasted Ham, Swiss and Egg Sandwich. But the newest option marks the first time the chain has dived into offering customers vegan menu items.
The Starbucks vegan breakfast sandwich is currently on sale for $5.45 at one location outside of Seattle in Issaquah, Wash. More menu items are being tested, too. Plant-Powered Potato Bake Bites made from a vegan egg substitute are also on the menu for $4.75. Little information is known about Chickpea bites, but they are also being tested. The Issaquah location is the same café where a vegan cream cheese menu testing took place in September.
The chain has made quite a few plans this year for 2021, and here are 5 Major Changes You'll See at Starbucks Moving Forward.
