According to recent reports, Taco Bell has unveiled that it will begin selling beer this summer at more restaurants. This expansion is unfortunately only targeting locations in Canada. After all, it was back in 2015 when a Taco Bell Cantina restaurant located in Wicker Park, an uber-trendy neighborhood of Chicago, applied for a liquor license. Today, there are only six US. locations that sell beer, wine, sangria, and frozen drinks right now.
The infamous taco chain says that it will begin serving beer at its flagship store in Toronto in June, with plans for a majority of its Canadian restaurants opening in 2017 to follow suit. Only time will tell if this expansion comes to more locations in the U.S.
So what will that mean for you and your waistline? If you decide to indulge alcohol—and you want to stay trim—plan to skip high-cal dishes like the Smothered Shredded Chicken Burrito (1,300 calories) and Express Taco Salad with Chips (580 calories) and opt for a lighter menu option like the Fresco Chicken Soft Tacos (280 calories) instead. This will leave you some extra calories to put toward your drink order. Just be sure to cut yourself off after round one. The more you sip, the more appetizing those Chalupas become, which ups the odds you’ll go back to the counter for more.
