Well, it’s not quite that easy, but this diet trick is a pretty great alternative. Employees who follow a vegan diet become more productive, feel less fatigued and miss fewer hours of work, according to a recent American Journal of Health Promotion study. What better way to become your boss’ favorite and climb the corporate ladder, right?
To come to these findings, researchers teamed up with GEICO, placing their employees with a BMI of 25 or above on a low-fat, low-glycemic, high-fiber vegan diet for 18 weeks. The researchers had the participants fill out questionnaires about their health and work productivity prior to the intervention and again after the diet concluded. After reviewing the self-reported data, researchers discovered that, besides kicking ass and taking names at the office, participants lost an average of 10 pounds and improved various other markers of physical and mental health.
Think weight doesn’t factor into the workplace? Think again: Previous research has proven that overweight people have less success in the job market and often make less money over the course of their careers than their slimmer counterparts.
Ready for a big raise? The better you take care of yourself, the better you’ll perform at work. Add some dishes from the study—like vegetable and hummus sandwiches, seasonal leafy green salads, or black bean chili—to your weekly recipe repertoire to slim down and get into the right state of health to land that promotion!
