Walmart's New Partnership Will Let You Order Groceries via Email
Walmart has an all-new partnership, and it's one that no other major grocery store has ever done before: When you want to go grocery shopping, you can fill up your cart and pay for your groceries before you even get to the Walmart location nearest you—all via email.
Today, Verizon Media debuted "Groceries from Walmart," a brand new feature that allows Yahoo Mail users to peruse the aisles of Walmart online, add items to their virtual cart, and pay for them before picking them up.
This new feature was created largely in response to consumers' behavior during the pandemic, as many (especially those who are at high risk of experiencing adverse symptoms of coronavirus) are trying to make a conscious effort to limit their outings to public places. A survey conducted by Inmar Intelligence in May found that 80% of Americans are shopping online for groceries, up 40% prior to the pandemic.
"Because of the unprecedented coronavirus challenge, online grocery shopping is now the new normal and Verizon Media is well-positioned to take advantage of the behavior shifts," said Guru Gowrappan, CEO of Verizon Media in a statement.
Last year, Yahoo Mail launched Grocery View, an app that shows users the best deals at grocery stores, and allows them to be saved for later use in shopping lists. The app also allows patrons to connect their loyalty cards to respective stores, which automatically applies saved coupons when they're ready to checkout. "Groceries from Walmart" not only allows users to do all of those things, but it also eliminates the time it would take to search for groceries in-store.
"Customers are leaning on Walmart more than ever for us to help them save on items they need the most, but also to help save them time," said Rich Lehrfeld, senior vice president of Walmart Marketing.
The best part? The shopping cart never times out, so you can leisurely add things into your cart all day before paying for your items. Say goodbye to two hour-long grocery shopping trips with this new feature.
