Walmart Is Running Out of These Two Basic Items
Toilet paper, the most buzzed-about grocery item of 2020, is in the spotlight once again. While consumers have spent most of the year either hoarding bath tissue or worrying about whether they'll need to hoard it, manufacturers have been on overdrive trying to meet both increased demand and fend off potential deficits in a cold-weather wave of COVID-19.
Unfortunately, it appears as if shortages of two essential goods are upon us once again. Walmart, America's biggest retailer, just announced it's running short of not only toilet paper but also cleaning supplies.
Even though Walmart began to build up its stock months ago in anticipation of this very scenario, the discount retailer revealed some of its stores are completely out of both products, according to CNN. Shortages aren't being reported nationwide but rather in areas with sharp spikes in COVID-19 cases. Based on the latest infection numbers, this may include locations across Montana and the midwestern states of Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. While Walmart CEO Doug McMillon called the situation "disappointing," he emphasized that the retailer was still better positioned to meet the customer demand than it was back in the spring. "It feels to me like we'll work through this period of time better than we did in the first wave," he added.
Walmart hasn't yet imposed any storewide purchase limits on paper products, a strategy which several other retailers have implemented amid the third wave of the pandemic. Kroger recently set a two-per-customer limit on products, such as bath tissue, paper towels, and disinfecting wipes.
