Wendy's new chicken sandwich, ironically named the Classic Chicken Sandwich, is the latest in a series of new chicken sandwich creations offered by major fast food chains this year. From major players like Popeyes, which was spotted testing a new bacon-and-cheese version of their winning classic, to McDonald's rumored new line of fried chicken items, of which Spicy Nuggets did materialize, there's been no shortage of excitement in the Chicken Sandwich Wars arena.

Wendy's version, which promises a plumper, juicier, and crispier fried chicken filet, debuted in October, and is retailing for $4.99 in most markets (note that prices will vary from store to store.) But if you act fast, you can currently score one for free as part of the chain's latest promotion. (Related: 8 Grocery Items That May Soon Be in Short Supply.)

Through the close of business on Sunday, Nov. 8, Wendy's will give a free Classic Chicken Sandwich to any customer who places a mobile order via Wendy's app or who can display a QR code from the app during an in-store purchase. Any purchase is eligible for the free sandwich promotion, including an entire meal, a beverage, or even a Classic Chicken Sandwich itself.

Besides their latest addition, the Wendy's menu already features 14 different chicken sandwiches. However, the chain will be upgrading all of their existing fried chicken sandwiches with the new and improved crispy filet. That leaves only four items that use grilled rather than fried chicken on the chain's menu.
