With each changing season seems to come a new slew of foods with catastrophic calorie counts—you health-minded foodies out there know exactly what we’re talking about. And if you’ve ever been curious how bad these trendy eats actually are, you’re going to love our latest column: Worst Food in the World. In each installment, we find out just how villainous these nutritional nightmares really are. Taking center stage in today’s edition is the Bacon and Nutella Pound Cake Sandwich, a recently-developed recipe featured on the blog Oh, Bite It.
As the name implies, this “sandwich” is made by stuffing Nutella and bacon between two slices of buttery, grilled pound cake. While bacon isn’t the worst food out there, pound cake and Nutella are essentially void of beneficial nutrients. And when all is said and done, downing just one of these bad boys will cost you 1,000 calories, half a day’s sodium and cholesterol, a whopping 62 grams of artery-clogging fat and 70 grams sugar—that’s the equivalent of twenty-eight Hershey’s Kisses, in case you were curious. In fact, this concoction is so unhealthy that even Amy, the blogger who created the dish, referred to it as an “over the top monstrosity.” Need that in weight loss terms? A 150-pound person would have to jump rope for nearly two hours to burn it off. Yikes!
Our advice: Have some bacon with your breakfast, have a slice of pound cake or a spoonful of Nutella for dessert on occasion, but under no circumstance should you eat all three together and call it a “meal”. If you happen to have just survived a Zombie apocalypse then sure, go ahead and indulge, but otherwise we’re sticking to our guns on this one.
