Pepsi Just Launched A Brand New Drink
While Coca-Cola is discontinuing Tab and 199 other beverages, fizzy rival PepsiCo is adding a brand-new drink to its line-up. The company is launching a beverage to help aid sleep and promote relaxation—and it sounds like the perfect companion for these unusually stressful times.
Driftwell lacks the ingredients commonly found in soda cans like caffeine and sugar, and the enhanced water beverage is now available in 7.5-ounce cans from two online retailers. (Amazon and Walmart are both selling 10-packs of the Blackberry Lavender-flavored drinks for only $22.98.) Each serving contains 200 milligrams of L-theanine, the amino acid found in certain teas and mushrooms which helps reduce anxiety and stress. As a bonus, the mini-cans also have 10% of your daily magnesium intake.
Clairvoyant employees of Pepsi conceived the idea last year, and the new product expected to officially be on grocery store shelves early next year, according to CNBC. The non-carbonated vegan drink has no caffeine, calories, or sugar—components often found to prohibit relaxation and sleep.
"I think we're launching this at a time when there's more consumer interest than there previously was, given everything that's going on from a macro perspective," Emily Silver, the brand's vice president of innovation and capabilities, said.
If you were curious about the soda's size, there's a method to the madness: Silver pointed out to CNBC that it would promote hydration "without requiring another trip to the bathroom" at night.
