Think of this nutritious breakfast bowl as a healthier alternative to chocolate-covered fruit. This chocolate-covered cherry smoothie bowl recipe has all the fruity, chocolaty goodness you might crave, along with a powerful dose of protein.

Cherries are rich in antioxidants, and this recipe is full of them. Three-quarters of a cup of frozen cherries help make the smoothie bowl's base, and another three fresh cherries top the bowl, for an extra-sweet finish. If cherries are a fruit you don't often include in your diet, this recipe could be a delicious way to incorporate more cherries into your meals. (They're in season in the summer, too, so you won't want to miss out on them when they're at their freshest point.)

This smoothie bowl does have 31 grams of sugar, which puts it on the high side for a breakfast meal. But it also has eight grams of protein and four grams of fiber, which will keep you full and energized through the morning. And with just 259 calories, you're getting a lot of nutrients in this healthy breakfast bowl.

In addition to the health benefits you'll get from the cherries, this recipe also features antioxidant-rich pomegranate-cherry juice, along with coconut chips and cocoa nibs, so there's plenty of flavors to go around. And with the chocolate and coconut flavors, this bowl is like an upgraded (and healthier) version of a candy bar. If you're a cherry lover or just looking for new ways to use this fruit, this is one smoothie bowl recipe to keep in your back pocket.
