Shake Shack Is Bringing Back This Beloved Menu Item

The famous spicy fan favorite is back for a third time.

Once a year or so, Shake Shack graces its menu and our lives with the addition of Hot Chick'n, a spicy version of their classic Chick'n Shack Sandwich. And this month, the fan-favorite item is making its third appearance. Starting on September 1, the sandwich is available nationwide for a limited time.

Right in time to give Wendy's and McDonald's a run for their spicy chicken money, the Hot Chick'n sandwich comes in two versions: "hot" and "extra hot". And not only can you choose your spice level, but the answer as to why this sandwich is so popular may lie in the chicken. The breast used in this sandwich is slow-cooked in buttermilk via the fancy sous vide technique, before being deep-fried to a crispy perfection and dusted with a special blend of guajillo and cayenne pepper. It's then nestled in a classic toasted potato bun with slaw and pickles, which provide the perfect crunchy, briny antithesis to the spiciness.

And following the spicy theme, you'll find several other spicy additions to the Shake Shack menu that can accompany the sandwich. For a limited time, you'll also be able to order Hot Chick'n Bites (which are basically spicy chicken nuggets), Hot Spicy Fries, and Hot Spicy Cheese Fries, all dusted with the same guajillo and cayenne pepper spice mix and served with a side of ranch sauce.

The chain first introduced the Hot Chick'n sandwich back in 2017. The item was always meant to be a limited time offer, but due to unprecedented popularity, the chain brought it back again in 2018. However, much to the disappointment of fans, the sandwich didn't come back in 2019, which makes this an even bigger treat for fans.
