FACT CHECKED BY Amanda McDonald

Peanut butter is the pantry staple that many of us can't live without. Whether you prefer a creamy or crunchy texture, chances are that you enjoy peanut butter with other irresistible pairings!

According to new data from grocery delivery service Instacart, there are several other items that shoppers order the most when they add peanut butter to the cart.

When compared to all Instacart orders, the company's Trends Expert Laurentia Romaniuk says that online carts that contain peanut butter are more likely to also include other items like apples, oats, and more that complement it—and a few of them may not surprise you! Here are the top five items people buy when they get a jar of PB sent to their homes, ending with the item that is added more than anything else.

6 Things You'll See at Costco This Year

Whole Wheat Bread

Instacart data shows that a lot of shoppers add this type of bread specifically to their online carts when ordering peanut butter. It's a great choice—when compared to white bread, whole wheat bread has fewer calories and is a great source of fiber.

If you're one of the shoppers who have purchased both items recently, Peanut butter, strawberries, and chocolate chips toast is a great way to use that wheat bread before it goes bad.

Quick Oats

Another frequently added item according to Instacart is quick oats. Known for their versatility, oats are a popular breakfast item that a lot of people clearly add peanut butter to.

It's a great combo for mornings—oats are also great for digestion because they contain lots of fiber and adding PB to them gives you some healthy fats and protein.

Like peanut butter, granola bars have plenty of protein and fiber that allow you to feel full (not to mention that it contains clusters of yummy oats and nuts). And they are convenient to take on the go.

Jams & Jellies

Peanut butter and jelly…name a more iconic duo—we'll wait! The classic PB&J is the perfect sandwich when you're in a pinch. Whether you prefer strawberry, grape, or raspberry flavors, it's easy to see why shoppers often pair jams & jellies with peanut butter. Some have even reinvented the classic by adding fresh fruit, marshmallow fluff, or bacon & bananas — also known as the Elvis sandwich.

Royal Gala Apples

By far the item Instacart shoppers add to their cart when buying peanut butter are these apples.

Peanut butter with apples isn't just a quick bite between meals, but also a healthy snack! Both can help to support digestion, regulate blood sugar levels, and reduce inflammation. Peanut butter is a good source of protein while apples carry lots of antioxidants and have been linked to lowering the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. When paired together, apples and peanut butter can help with weight management by allowing you to stay fuller for longer.

With all these benefits, it isn't a surprise that Instacart sees these types of apples in people's carts the most of any other grocery item. If you're hungry just reading about it, here's a recipe for Apple "Cookies" with Peanut Butter that make for a perfect and healthy afternoon snack.
