IHOP Is Opening a New Breakfast Chain Called Flip'd

See where it's opening first.

Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but that doesn't mean you always have time for it. After all, between work, chores, and social obligations, who has time to sit down for a three-egg omelet or a full stack of silver-dollar pancakes?

Enter IHOP. The International House of Pancakes—a chain that famously popularized the 24-hour-a-day-breakfast—announced today that it's opening a standalone fast-casual breakfast restaurant in 2020. It's called Flip'd, and it'll be a counter-service place in the same vein as places like Chipotle, Dig Inn, and Five Guys: it's a step above traditional fast-food go-tos like McDonald's or Taco Bell, but it'll still offer quick service.

Unlike many other fast-casual restaurants, Flip'd will offer a unique way to order food: customers can place orders at digital touchpad kiosks. (Orders can be placed in advance, too.)

If you're wondering what's on the menu, just like at the traditional sit-down IHOP, Flip'd will serve pancakes, pancakes, and more pancakes. But the IHOP chefs have whipped up a few more creative offerings as well, which the brand is calling its "signature dishes." A few choice offerings include:

  • The Bacon Temptation: two eggs, bacon, roasted tomatoes, and queso served over crispy breakfast potatoes
  • The Garden: baby arugula, sautéed mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, and avocado cream sauce served on crispy breakfast potatoes
  • A Build-Your-Own-Pancake Bar, which is exactly what it sounds like: customize pancakes with a variety of mix-ins, toppings, compotes, and fruits

Flip'd will also offer standard breakfast fare, including egg sandwiches and breakfast burritos, and lunch foods, like burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, and wraps. But the real draw is something called the Pancake Bowl.

IHOP doesn't offer much detail about the Pancake Bowl, other than to say it's a "pancake served in a bowl." We can only imagine what this means, and we can't wait to find out. (Eat your heart out, burrito bowls!)

The first Flip'd location is set to open in Atlanta in April 2020. If Flip'd performs well, expect to see locations pop up in other metropolitan areas across the country.
