Shay Mitchell has had more than her fair share of work on her plate amid the COVID pandemic. Between caring for daughter Atlas, 1, and tackling a lead role on Hulu hit Dollface, it's unsurprising that Mitchell doesn't have tons of spare time. That's why, when the star resolved to get fitter and healthier in 2021, she didn't want to spend hours in the gym doing it. Instead, Mitchell revealed to her Instagram followers just how she'd managed to completely transform her body in mere minutes a day.
Mitchell posted a side-by-side photo of her remarkable transformation to Instagram, admitting that she'd developed some less-than-healthy habits in quarantine before deciding to get healthier.
"2020 was the year of searching for something to make us feel good. Not even good…to feel fine. Feel 'normal,'" Mitchell explained. "For me, that came in the form of comfort food, comfort clothes and throwing my fitness routine out the window. And that was okay…for a while."
However, Mitchell knew it was time for a change. "[I] made a pact with myself that 2021 would be different. I wanted to focus on myself again, because I'm the best version of myself for Atlas – and everyone else – when I take care of myself first," wrote the actor.

She started working out four days a week.
Think you need to hit the gym every day to get results like Mitchell's? Think again.
As part of her "Four Weeks of Focus" plan, the actor worked out for just 30 minutes a day, four days a week alongside trainer Kelsey Heenan and close friend—and former personal assistant to Kim Kardashian—Stephanie Shepherd Suganami, AKA Steph Shep.
She mixed up her workouts.
It wasn't just one workout that got Mitchell into such amazing shape. In her Instagram highlights, Mitchell described the workout plan as "a combination of strength exercises to tone our muscles, and cardio movements to burn calories." She also incorporated recovery stretches post-workout to keep her body limber. And for more celebrity fitness news, Brie Larson Reveals How She Transformed Her Body to Get in Superhero Shape.
She didn't stick to a strict diet plan.
While combining healthy eating and exercise may be key to most weight loss plans, Mitchell admitted that she doesn't do well with restrictive diet plans.
"I don't believe in diets. Personally, they don't work for me. I think you need to eat in moderation. That is the only thing, at least for me, that works."
However, she did reveal that she's been incorporating healthier foods into her diet to fuel her workouts, like smoothies made using bananas, spinach, oat milk, and protein powder.
She didn't deprive herself.
While Mitchell may be on a quest to become healthier, both mentally and physically, the actor has said in the past that she's not about to let her diet become the sole focus of her life.
"I will always be the girl that can get in some exercise and NOT feel guilty about eating a slice(s) of pizza or a scoop(s) of ice cream—it's all in moderation!"
