Popeyes' Strawberry Cheesecake Pie Is One of the Best Desserts Around

Move over, McDonald's.

When you think of fast-food pies, McDonald's apple pie likely comes to mind. But the Golden Arches isn't the only place serving up deep-fried fruit treats. The new strawberry cheesecake pie at Popeyes is creamy, with a flaky crust—and it puts other fast-food pies to shame.

What's in the new Popeyes pie?

The strawberry cheesecake pie features strawberry jam and a hefty layer of cheesecake filling. The ingredients come together in a flaky pie crust that's just thick enough to add its own flavor to the mix without being overwhelming.

The two filling ingredients are side-by-side, rather than mixed together, but that doesn't take away from the goodness of the pie. It wasn't hard to get a bite that featured both flavors, and I liked being able to separate the fruity strawberry jam from the cheesecake.

How does the Popeyes strawberry cheesecake pie taste?

Quite simply, this is one of the best desserts I've ever tasted, fast-food or otherwise. The filling tasted like fresh jam and cream cheese—as if it really was a fresh-baked pie. The crust had a great, flaky texture and didn't seem dried-out, as many of the McDonald's apples pies I've tried over the years have been.

The Popeyes pie, while a similar shape to the classic McDonald's apple pie, is miles ahead of its competitor.

How much does the new Popeyes pie cost?

The Popeyes pie costs between $1 and $2 in various locations across the country. (I bought one in Manhattan, and it was $1.95, while others have reported seeing it for $1.29 and $1.49.)

The new offering is a limited-time deal, so don't wait to try this delicious treat. And if you happen to snag a Popeyes chicken sandwich while you're there, you've got a perfect meal on your hands. Don't forget to add one of the chain's legendary sweet teas to the order, too.
