Costco Shoppers Are Calling This New Appetizer the Warehouse's "Worst Product"

Despite the holy trifecta of cheese, herbs, and garlic, this item simply falls flat.

Shrimp cocktail or a cheese plate, anyone? When it comes to tasty appetizers, Costco is a treasure trove of options. You'll find great frozen options as well as ready-made platters, baked goods, and pantry staples that will aid in last-minute hosting. But not all apps are created equal and the warehouse does swing and miss every once in a while, putting out an item that shoppers simply can't get behind.

According to customers, the store's Pull Apart Cheese Bread is one of those misses. Costco fan account @costcobuys highlighted the cheesy appetizer produced by the French company Tipiak in a post that ended up receiving a slew of comments criticizing the item. The bread, which comes refrigerated and ready to bake, is stuffed with cheeses, garlic, and herbs, and retails for only $11.69 per box—honestly, it's hard to imagine it being anything but a completely delicious steal. But it is.

8 Costco Items Garnering Thousands of Customer Complaints

According to those who have tried it, the oven-ready bread just doesn't hit the spot. One Instagram user said "I bought one and had it for a family dinner appetizer. No one likes it," while another described it as "the worst product at Costco."

A third follower advised future customers not to purchase this food as the comment read, "This is not good at all. Please don't waste your money, it's just stale bread, no flavor, and the cheese doesn't pull." Several other users backed up the no flavor claim, as well as branded the appetizer "underwhelming."

Tipiak's bread isn't a new Costco addition—it was spotted at the warehouse as early as 2019 and seems to have some staying power. But even back then, shoppers warned about its shortcomings. "I'm sorry, but this just isn't that good. The bread is somewhat dry with a baking soda aftertaste," one user said. "The cheese is also underwhelming. Looks better on the box than it tasted."

To top it all off, Costco Food Database, a popular food review site, compared the bread's texture to that of "an old crusty carpet." If that hasn't convinced you yet of this product's taste (or lack thereof) then we don't know what will.

As a tasty alternative, Costco's beloved bakery did drop five new items in 2022, including raspberry mini cakes with buttercream frosting and a decadent chocolate cheesecake. Save yourself the negative appetizer reviews and grab some sweets for Thanksgiving this year!
