Innovation has been on the menu at Chipotle. The Mexican fast-casual chain has launched and tested several new menu items in the last two years, including some that have undergone a nationwide rollout. And the chain isn't done with updates to its protein options. Today it announced it will be testing another exciting meat recipe: the Garlic Guajillo Steak.

Starting on May 3, the Garlic Guajillo Steak will be available for a limited time at more than 100 restaurants in Denver, Colo., Indianapolis, Ind., and Orange County, Calif. The boldly-flavored steak features a combination of garlic and guajillo peppers, grilled fresh in small batches, and diced before being finished with fresh lime and cilantro. And according to the chain, it's supposed to be impossibly tender.

"Garlic Guajillo Steak is full of flavor with a perfect little kick that complements our 53 real ingredients," said Chris Brandt, the chain's chief marketing officer. "Menu innovation is an ongoing priority at Chipotle, and we are always looking for new flavors to give our fans new ways to Chipotle."

The Garlic Guajillo Steak will follow the recently tested Smoked Brisket and the already-successful new Pollo Asado, which CEO Brian Niccol called the "most popular new protein to date" on a recent earnings call. Additionally, the Mexican fast-casual has seen positive reviews for Plant-Based Chorizo, which it tested out in January in conjunction with its Lifestyle Bowls.

Chipotle is also planning on developing its side dishes beyond the tried-and-true guacamole, which is an addition that many customers choose to tack on to their orders. In 2020, the company released the Queso Blanco, which was received with mixed reviews mainly due to its texture. Most recently, the chain hinted it may be introducing a new dessert option in the near future.

If you'd like to try the new steak, Chipotle is offering a Cinco De Mayo special from May 2 to May 6, featuring a $0 delivery fee for anyone ordering via the Chipotle app or Chipotle.com. Simply use the promo code DELIVER.
