How to Get Free Drinks at Starbucks All Holiday Season

It'll make Mondays worth it.

Starbucks is giving us even more of a reason to splurge on our daily cups of joe: It’s called Merry Mondays.

Every Monday through December 7th, Starbucks Rewards members get holiday specials from 2 p.m. to close. If you stop in today—Monday, November 30th—you’ll earn 8 Bonus Stars with any purchase of $15. With just four more stars, you get a free beverage of your choice.

But think before you order—the average American gains 7 to 10 pounds during the holiday season. You aren’t doing yourself any favors by sipping on a drink that’s more fattening than the Thanksgiving dessert you passed up. If you've had a frap habit in the past, order a Protein Smoothie with whey protein, banana, a shot of espresso, ice and water. And if you’re looking to slim down, ask for an unsweetened matcha tea powder mixed with just hot water. This brew is a fat-melting weight loss superfood.

Not into special requests? A tall Whole Milk Cappuccino or a Teavana Iced Green Tea Lemonade have solid nutritional profiles, void of empty calories and added sugars. Consuming too much processed sugar causes our bodies to store more fat. In fact, researchers have found that when rats consume high-fructose corn syrup, obesity is uniformly the result. While there is variation in weight-gain for rats placed on a high-fat diet, there is none when they are fed sugar.

Keep this in mind when when you’re taking advantage of next Merry Mondays' half-off Frappuccino Blended Beverages. A grande S’mores Frappuccino contains 500 calories, 20 grams of fat, 75 grams of carbs and 68 grams of sugar. Yikes! Opt for a grande Coffee Light Frappuccino Blended Coffee with just 110 calories, zero grams of fat and 23 grams of sugar instead. Or order your favorite frap but go mini (that's just one way to slim down your Starbucks order. Downsizing from a tall to a mini saves you about 17 percent of the calories.
