This Beloved Fast-Food Chicken Chain Has a New Sandwich
Last fall, Popeyes Chicken Sandwich came back after months of being completely sold out. The world's favorite chicken sandwich option features a brioche bun, fried chicken, pickles, and mayo for only $3.99. It's super simple, super delicious, flavorful, and a ton of people absolutely love it. But it's time for the Chicken Sandwich to share the spotlight — Popeyes has started testing another version!
The fast-food chain is selling BBQ Bacon Cheddar Chicken Sandwiches at some locations around Denver, Colorado. The new option adds hot, charred bacon and melty cheddar cheese to the regular sandwich, topped with firey, yet sweet barbecue sauce. One customer who tried it told Chew Boom that it had too much sauce, making it hard to appreciate the other flavors. This is a sharp contrast to the original, which only has mayo.
It does cost a little more for the new extras — Popeyes is selling the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Chicken Sandwich for $5.49. Get the combo deal with a side, biscuit and a drink for $7.49.
The result obviously turned out to be a hit, making other fast-food chains jealous. Chick-fil-A, also famed for their chicken sandwiches, has more options than Popeyes, and posed on Twitter back in August when Popeyes was selling out of their sandwiches: "Bun + Chicken + Pickles = all the <3 for the original." The official Louisiana kitchen's account simply responded with "…y'all good?"
Other restaurants have been busy adding items to their menus, as well. Burger King recently took one of their dessert staples and shrunk it down. Mini shakes are currently only $1. And Taco Bell brought back the Nacho Crunch Double-Stacked Taco for hard-shell and soft-shell fans.
