With the New Year here and everyone looking to make a change for the better, Chick-fil-A is on a mission to offer more balanced choices on their menu. Announced today and coming later this month, the popular chicken chain will be introducing a kale salad and removing the coleslaw from their side options. That’s right, a kale salad! It’s something no other fast food operation has done thus far. Let’s just hope that this is a lasting decision rather than just another short term resolution.
Chick-fil-A has a record of being one of the more health-conscious fast-food joints out there; it was the first to introduce a fruit cup in 2004 and also added grilled chicken to their kids meal in 2012. Since then, we’ve seen some major changes in menu options throughout all of the fast food restaurants. Let’s hope this superfood side gets added to other menus nationwide, too! After all, kale is noted to be one of the world’s healthiest foods, filled with fiber, potassium, vitamin C and B6.
Chick-fil-A’s newest salad, coming out January 18th, is chopped Broccolini and kale tossed with a sweet maple vinaigrette dressing, topped with dried, sour cherries, and served with a variety of nuts. Including the nut topping, this salad comes to only 170 calories and 8 grams of fat in the larger, 8-ounce portion, with a smaller, 5-ounce alternative also available. The optional nuts add an extra source of protein along with the dried cherries, and maple dressing satisfies that craving for sweetness. Eating healthy on-the-go is not always easy—so rather than indulging in the waffle fries or chicken tortilla soup, you can grab the superfood side packed with tons of health benefits.
