“If you’ve got a bag of Dole spinach sitting in your fridge, check the 'Enjoy by' date — it may be affected by a new recall. Dole is warning that certain bags of spinach may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria, which can cause food poisoning. The recalled bags have the codes A27409B & A27409A, an “Enjoy By” date of Oct. 15, and UPC 7143000976.” Read full story.
WALL STREET JOURNAL: Kroger Pulls Caramel Apples After Study on Listeria Threat
“Kroger Co. said Thursday [Oct. 15] it has pulled unrefrigerated caramel apples from its store shelves because of listeria concerns. Kroger said it made the decision based on new scientific evidence that the product, if left unrefrigerated after being pierced with a stick, could be at risk for the bacterial disease. The grocer said it is acting out of caution after reviewing a study published by the American Society of Microbiology.” Read full story.
