A-list actress Gwyneth Paltrow recently posted her 2016 detox plans on her health-conscious site, Goop.com, and announced she would be restraining herself from gluten, dairy, caffeine, added sugars, soy, nightshades, red meat, shellfish, alcohol, white rice and corn. Some of these are more cleanse-obvious than others, but the gist is that Paltrow has decided to focus on whole veggies and lean proteins.
Nixing corn could use some explaining though, right? Corn is known to be the foundation for a variety of different staple foods—not only in America, but around the world. It’s actually pretty hard to avoid and is used in a lot of places: Tortillas, popcorn, polenta, snack chips, and as an ingredient in gluten-free products, just to name a few. It is filled with 4.6 grams of fiber per cup and antioxidants that help improve bodily cells. Some people do shy away from the vegetable because it’s higher than other veggies on the glycemic index scale—although, it’s still ranked low-to-moderate overall.
As for Gwyneth, we’re sure she has her reasons for ditching corn. Even Gisele’s reason for refusing tomatoes made sense once we heard it. But it’s nearly impossible to eat perfectly and everyone’s diet and nutritional needs are different. Good luck, Gwyneth; we salute you from afar, in between bites of our healthy and delicious roasted corn!
